TORONTO -- The Blue Jays plan on searching through the bargain bin for some pitching depth this offseason. One hurler who Toronto has already expressed interest in is free agent Matt Clement, who is returning from a major shoulder injury.
On Sunday, Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi acknowledged that the club had already been in contact with Clement's representatives. Toronto probably won't be in the hunt for the top available free agents this offseason, but the Jays are willing to take a chance on less expensive solutions such as Clement.

Instead of taking chances on these types of players, JP should focus on acquiring prospects or just save the money.
Clement is coming back from a major surgery and even before the surgery he was never really that good. Don't see the need for going after him considering that, and considering the fact that we have a decent rotation right now. Unless they dump him into the bullpen.

Why doesn't JP target players that will make a difference to our team. Clement is not gonna making us any better...

Wow JP keeps on pursuing his philosophy of bringing in injured pitchers who weren't even good to begin with and then releasing them after they hurt the team.
Let's bring back Ohka.

Or we can always give Towers an extension.

Not surprised. J.P has contacted him in the past. Apparently Toronto was his next option after Boston.

Eh, I'm fine with the gamble this season. We are really only looking for a #5 starter (one who will compete with Litsch, Chacin, Towers, and possibly Janssen). We have the depth to support this kind of risk this offseason. Last season we were talking about sliding Thompson into the #2 or 3 slot.
But we really need to find a left handed bat more than we need a #5 guy.

Or in this case WJ (who we should snap up while we have the chance)
