Wells Looks to be Ready for Season

The good news is that Wells believes he's very close to being back to full strength, and judging by the few swings he's taken since arriving in camp Monday, he looks that way, too. Still, Wells won't really know how stable his shoulder is until he steps into the batter's box during a game.

"Once I start doing everyday stuff to see how it reacts is pretty much the big question," Wells said. "I mean, I've hit in the cage. I was kind of on an every-other-day schedule in the offseason

It's good to see that our star CF is nearly back to full strength. I really want to see what this offence can do when healthy. Having Wells, Overbay, Rolen and Eckstein...all at 100% should give the Jays that much needed offensive boost to help one of the best pitching staff's in the majors.

That plus Hurt is actually giving more of an effort in ST to see if that will help his habit of slow starts.

Can't wait for some spring games to start....then eventually the season on the March 31st.

Good to hear. Nice to see everyone healthy...hopefully it stays that way.

Hopefully he can have a better season then he did last year, and stay healthy all year long.

He better get back to his old numbers, or I'll freak!

The theme of the 2008 Toronto Blue Jays season.

And the entire tenure of JP Riccardi.......

In reality though, I hoped he would be fully recovered already. Rushing himself back in the spring when he isnt sure he is recovered doesnt sit well with me.

It's been the same theme since JP took over.

I don't know if he's being rushed back....i'm sure he's nearly fully recovered, he still has no idea how his shoulder will respond to the regular day a major leaguer has to go thru....which does make some sense....it's almost like a new kind of rehab for him.

But if they are rushing him back, it doesn't sit well with me neither, they should've learned their lesson with AJ. And now they're also doing it with BJ Ryan....his situation really sits badly with me...even worse than V-Dub's current state.

^^BJ Ryan said he was fully recovered and ready for the upcoming season. I have no worries about him...

Hopefully Wells can have a monster year and improve to the point where he's only somewhat overpaid instead of grossly overpaid.

Agreed. He even stated nobody is worth that type of money.

I don't think there's 1 team in the majors that's stays 100% healthy throughout a 162 game schedule. I guess the most the Jays can ask (or any team for that matter) is for no significant injuries.

There were a lot of disappointing games last year. I just hope they get off to a great start so they can stay competitive throughout the year and not realize they have a mild shot halfway through with enough missed opportunities in the past that are starting to show.

I was very frustrated about how Wells played last year, and how people were talking about him as a waste of money and not being the franchise player for the Jays. Now that he's healthy (near 100% from what I've heard), there's no more excuses...

I hope that he can be that .300 hitter again, with 30 dingers and 100 RBIs.

If this team stays healthy, i guarantee the playoffs.

Offense: One of the best in the league

Defense: One of the best in the league

Pitching: One of the best in the league

Obviously, all of this only holds true when we are healthy.

You say one of the best in the league - that's all good but it doesn't help that two of the better teams happen to be in the same division.

You forgot;

Getting injured: One of the best in the league

Jays just picked up Shannon Stewart: They can now replace any player onthe roster including SP's and relievers with very competent to above average talent at every position:

Outfield: Johnson and Stewart off the bench (not to mention Lind)!
Infield:Scutaro, Mcdonald,Stairs (at first for Overbay, who is clearly healthy now according to the latest reports)
Catcher: Barajas

Pitching: Chacin, Jannsen and Purcey or Litsch

You could field a .500 team with that bench alone.

I don't think injuries are going to be nearly as deadly as in previous years.
There's only so unlucky one team can be.
