Rolen Injury Thread

Post#1 » by OldNo7 » Fri Mar 28, 2008 1:36 pm

Decided to start this now, as there are likely to be a zillion questions regarding this. So here you can discuss, and post updates, and so on.

Today's papers: Rolen likely to miss all of April

It sucks that Rolen appeared to be healthy from his shoulder injury, and before he even gets to play, he suffers an unrelated freak injury that might keep him out a month and a half. Tough break for Rolen, and typical Jays luck.

I'm going to be pissed if he rushes back early. Like I've mentioned before, hand injuries tend to sap power and can be lingering, so coming back early is just going to make it drag out all year.

what a band-aid...already i'm getting bitter about this season...if wells doesn't produce big time and get off to a hot start, we're screwed...rolen better be back and meeting his career averages

How did that "band-aid" Mike Lowell work out for the Red Sox last year? I have no idea what that has to do with suffering a fluke broken finger anyway.

but ryan and rolen could come in a month and be great and we could be looking good. Lets just hope we dont have 1 big injury for the next 2 months. NOT 1, hell the whole year lol

Ryan's is a big injury. They are rushing him back from a major ligament surgery that requires more time to heal. If they continue with trying to rush him in, he could be out the whole year. If they sit him until June, there is a better chance at him becoming somewhat reliable down the stretch, albeit with lesser stuff/speed than he had 2 years ago.

I agree with your conservative approach but I think that the Jays management does not. As well it looks like Ryan is itching to get out there.

I can only hope that Accardo performs well in Ryan's absence so the team won't feel as much of a need to rush him. Seriously Riccardi has a bad history with rushing those from injuries so this does not bode well. I remember the Burnett issues and JP calling him out along with Gibbons pitching him in 130 pitch pitchcounts right before he got injured. Plus Wells and Overbay should not have been played as much as they did last year.

Indeed the bullpen of the Jays is pretty solid right now even with Janssen's departure.

The guy I hope can come back soon is Rolen but I hope that he doesn't become the Overbay of last year.

Lets face it. Both JP and Gibbons is desperate, especially for Riccardi. I think the desperation for the "win now, screw later" mentality started last year with rushing players back and having players play while nursing injuries. Sure, Ryan is urging to come back, but the team still has the final say on when he should start pitching. But knowing JP, Ryan will pitch as soon as he says he's ready. It's a gamble Riccardi is willing to take.

According to tonight's broadcast, Rolen's fine with the bat at this moment. The major problem now is throwing.

I can't wait to see him playing in a Jays uniform; I feel like our lineup seems so incomplete without him.
That said, Inglett > Pujols > Rolen.

Gibby said earlier in the week on the fan morning show that he expects Rolen to be back inside of three weeks.

Best Case scenario is 2 weeks, Gibby says.
