seems like almost all the best teams in the league with the exception of a few have a legit 35-40 home run threat batter in there lineup. I dont consider either Rios or Wells this type of home run threat. Question is at some point are we going to have to aquire more of a impactfull long ball hitter?
Does this team need to aquire a legit 40hr threat?

We haven't really filled that role properly since Delgado left. Glaus could have been the guy, and Thomas could have been that guy too but we know how they worked out. We don't have any guys that can really turn the game around with a single swing of the bat.
On the other hand, if all of our guys would play up to their full capabilities then it really wouldn't make a big diff if we had a 40 hr guy or not. I think the bigger problem is that all of our guys are horribly un-clutch.

Glaus and Thomas hit 38 and 39 HR's as recently as 2 seasons ago. Right now, pending Rolen's return, we have absolutely nothing to show for either of them. For the record, Rolen hasn't hit as many as 38 HR's the past 3 seasons combined (35).

Adam Dunn would be a godsend...his .230-.260 average means nothing when it's offset by a .380 OBP and 40 home runs a year. There's nothing I want more than for Dusty Baker to grow frustrated with him clogging up the bases, and talks Jocketty into trading him.

**** your asterisk.

Count me in on the Adam Dunn sweepstakes although I'm not sure what Jockety would want.
That said, Jockety always found high OBP guys in St Louis so he probably values Dunn more than than the last regime did.

He's a free-agent next winter so that would be a huge overpayment with that risk.
I think you pretty much have to wait for off-season and convince Ted Rogers to open up the vault.
