Would you fire Gibbons?

There's no reason why this team is performing the way they are right now, with the players and payroll they have. The blame should fall on the manager and GM imo.

And please don't make the same mistake by hiring someone without any MLB experience as a manager.

I don't understand why this team has such a high payroll, and refuses to throw the money at an experienced manager?!? :banghead:

Gibbons is definitely on thin ice right about now. I wouldn't be surprised if he got fired within the next couple weeks. Whatever hes doing just isn't working, we need an experience manager for this team.

Yes, and The axe is going to fall soon IMO. Possibily right after a sweep at the hands of the royals

if they are ernie witt is gonna be interim till the end of the year, as sad as that sounds but jp will get the axe at the end of the year 100% if this up and down season continues **** hitting

Although it would be nice to get rid of Gibbons, I just hate doing it during the season. IMO, I like to do the whole hiring process during the off-season, where there is enough time to make a firm decision on who the best candidate can be..
Whereas we'll probably be stuck with an interim-manager if this is done during the season

Gibbons is a terrible manager:

1. He abuses our starters like few managers whose nicknames are not a synonym for "dirty".

2. The disturbing use of very bad hitters, sometimes as the DH. No one in the league loves playing a utility infielder at 1B or a back-up catcher at DH quite as much as Gibbons. Granted, our minor league system is weak (especially at power positions), but last year's club may have set a record for the number of catchers (4) and utility infielders (8, if you include Adams) to appear in a game over the course of a single season.

3. His misuse of defensive substitutions. We're paying John McDonald a fair sum of money. Why the %#@! doesn't he replace Eckstein (a weak fielder) in the late innings? That's the only logical reason to have McDonald!

4. Lineup madness. Granted, this isn't a huge deal, but in the past it has frustrated me to no end. Starting Howie Clark for some reason? Maybe Royce Clayton? Hit 'em lead-off! And by all means give a guy a day off even if it means hitting Zaun fifth.

The problem traces back to Ricciardi. There is virtually no difference between Carlos Tosca and John Gibbons. They both had little to no experience coming into the job and both will likely never manage a Major League team again, but they both listen(ed) to JP. Could you imagine Ricciardi trying to instill his philosophy onto Lou Pinella? It wouldn't work, and that's putting it mildly.

I said before the year that I either want the Jays to make the playoffs or to be so bad that both JP and Gibbons are let go. It's still too early to tell, and I think the Jays do have a run in them with Lind and Rolen now in the lineup, but they are not like the Yankees who can dig themselves into an early hole and put up a 50-15 stretch to end the season.

I think it's safe to assume that Gibbons will be the scapegoat at some point this season. If the Jays do fail to make the post-season again, I hope this is the year JP is finally held accountable for his work. I think he's improved since 2006 (especially drafting), but it was far too late.

I doubt he gets fired, Gibby is too close to JP.

At he end of the day, they're both below average at their job and need to go.

Those are pretty much all of my gripes against Gibbons. I think he tries to be too clever for his own good sometimes.

I would at end of last season.

But he should get the axe maybe second week of May if things continue this way.

I can't stand him anymore. I can't stand JP neither, but he's no going anywhere, unfortunately.

Straight from the mouth of JP Riccardi:

I think that John (Gibbons) has done a great job!

Just terrific....

Its a fact that J.P. & Gibby used to sleep together!!

They were roomates back in their worthless minor league careers in the early 80's.

How to kill the snake, start with the head J.P. then Gibby.. can't wait to see Godfrey actualy do something other then being a cheerleader for a NFL team.

FIRE JP
FIRE GIBBY

Unfortunately nothing is probably going to change in terms of Gibbons and JP until possibly the end of the season (but even then i have a feeling they might stick around).

JP has done nothing for this team but continuously acquire scrap pieces hoping that it will work out. I think he's just duped Godfrey into thinking he's some sort of mastermind with some masterplan. It's obvious he's got nothing but hot air.

Gibbons has to go too. His bullpen use, and constant platooning of everyone is really getting tiring. Not only that but it kid of feels like the morale of the team is really low at the moment.

23-0 in favour of firing Gibby so far....

Seriously, this organization needs a complete overhaul, meaning JP and Gibbons need to go ASAP...

JP has had to long to turn this around and has failed miserably.
