Good move. Low risk, high reward. He's also a versitile player that can play 1B and all 3 OF positions. Hopefully he can regain his stroke.

That said, this pretty much confirms that JP has no desire to add Barry Bonds which would be the ulimate low risk, high reward move. And I think that BB has a very strong case for his blackball allegations. He's far too good a hitter to be still unsigned at this point.

I remember when there was a strong rumor of us landing Wilkerson in exchange for Wells a couple of off-seasons ago

It was in exchange for Rios, not Wells and it was the winter between the 2005 and 2006 seasons. And I do believe that it was the Texas GM that got greedy wanting more and that JP was more than willing to make the move.

Wilkerson hasn't been good since 2005 (and even that was an average season). If the Jays are going to make a desperation move(s) to further stunt Adam Lind's growth, then I'd much rather have Bonds too. Wilkerson is not anywhere near the hitter he was in Montreal, and his power has gone to hell. Maybe the Jays catch lightning in a bottle here and reap the benefits of buying low on a formely good player, but I doubt it.

TSN is reporting it's a done deal. They're also reporting the Jays have acquired Kevin Mench for cash.

I must admit that both acquisitions are intriguing. But thats mostly because we are dying for any sort of offense right now. If Mench and Wilkerson are used right (they are both notorious for terrible lefty/righty splits) their above average pop would provide a much needed boost to the lineup.

Bang on with Mench (.922 career OPS vs LHP) but Wilkerson actually has a better career OPS vs LHP than RHP.
