.268 ba, 10 rbi's in 17 games with 11 walks and a obp of nearly .400

Let's not spin this into something it ain't. He also has 0 HR's and a measly 748 OBP in 56 AB's in Oakland and those are terrible numbers for a slow footed DH. Basically, he's only been marginally better in Oakland and wouldn't be helping out our dormat offense very much.

JP has made a ton of mistakes and he bungled the PR aspect of the Thomas situation but not having to pay Frank Thomas $10 million for declining production in 2009 is one of the best gifts that he'll leave his successor next winter. It absolutely had to be done.

Well said. Nobody was expecting Thomas to continue to get worse than his .167 average and .639 OPS that he posted in Toronto and he was eventually going to improve on those numbers. But it was clearly evident that Thomas had lost bat speed and although the walk numbers are still there, his foot speed meant he would never score from first or second with our single heavy lineup.

Trust me, you will want to use the ignore button in this case. It has done wonders for my enjoyment of this and the Raps board. It makes me wonder why someone would spend so much time paying attention to something they seem to hate so much.

p.s. Although difficult, Frank Thomas both sucks and blows.

My only issue with dismissing Thomas was finding out there wasn't really a master plan. But I never had any use for him in Toronto.

it's pretty much a no-lose situation for the A"s..... i mean they signed him to a very low contract, and even if he doesn't pan out, they dont have him on the hook for another season like the Jays would have..

Perhaps you're overstating the case?

While it's true that Billy Beane is a great GM, I don't see why the Jays got rocked for releasing Frankie T.

Paying him $10M for even lower production next year would have been ridiculous. That we were able to get one solid season out of him was pretty terrific. And looking at the Jays current lineup, is Stairs any worse than Thomas? I'd probably argue that it's the opposite.

It's optics. We could have just benched him (or sent him to the minors?). It sucks to have him competing against us in the AL now, and we're paying him so much money. Maybe JP could have traded him to a team willing to take half his salary. Do something.

I'm so much more confident with Stairs at DH than Thomas. This jackass on my ignore list wants to pay Thomas 10 mil for next season?
