Did you fall for the tease? Or were you smarter and knew that we were due for a couple of crushing defeats.

I for one, knew we would go on a loosing streak, and fall back to .500.

It's really not surprising at all. The Jays are more of a tease than that really flirty, yet goody goody girl in school. You always fool yourself into thinking you have a chance, until reality kicks in.

To be honest, I think it's the whole culture of this wretched team. They have a mindset that they are a .500 team. That's why we lose all the close games, and that's why we can never get many games over .500. The entire organization just has a 'We are an average team' mindset.

If we're ever going to get over this hump, we need to clean house, and we need to clean house NOW. We have to bring in some fresh faces with a new outlook.

I stated in a thread earlier that we need to trade everyone, except McGowan and Marcum, and I stand by that. This team is destined to win 80 to 86 games for the next 10 years.

'Mindset' and 'culture' have nothing to do with it; they are simply buzzwords. This team is average because it has average talent...above average pitching and below average hitting. That's it.

Gutting the team in some kind of massive fire sale wouldn't suddenly imbue the team with a winning mentality. All it would do is consign the club to the basement, and with JP's track record in trades, it's questionable whether the young talent received in return would brighten the future considerably. You're advocating not one, but several panicked trades, and that's a recipe for disaster.

A 4-5 road trip against three pretty decent teams, after a great hot stretch, on a trip that could have been 7-2...disappointing, but not that bad. Calm down.


Edit: in other news, the Jays dumped Hector Luna on Oakland for 26 year old infielder Kevin Melillo, who has put together some decent (but unspectacular) numbers in the minors. I have no sweet clue why Oakland did that.

Losing games where you have no chance would really hurt. We have to assume BJ will pickup his game from here on in. And we had 8 runs today. More good news.

But that said, it's frustrating we couldn't send a message to the Yanks by winning today. In fact, they probably sent a message to us.

This team is a 500 team at best. Its not being pessimistic or a downer, its just the truth.

I support this team, but they are mediocre.

What really sucks is that this team is not that far. Any team with pitching like ours is not out of it. Unfortunately this good pitching will be wasted because of the horrible hitting. If we do not add a legit hitter to our line up sometime soon then this will be another wasted season.

Yeah I'm not sure if this team is a .500 team or not.

I know you knuckle heads out there probably wouldn't want Mr. Mean
but he's probably still the best hitter in the league if he wants.

yup, if JP cant add some offense to the lineup, then this season is already a lost cause.

Hopefully now that vernons back, we can play better baseball to gain a lead on the yanks.

It's too late, IMO. The Jays would have to go 56-38 the rest of the way to get 90 wins, and that may not even be enough to win the Wild Card. The pitching is good enough to play .600 baseball the rest of the way (even accounting for a likely drop-off), but the offense has basically wasted the best pitching this franchise has had in a decade (1997 might have been better though I haven't looked up the stats). Even a league average offense gets this team 10 games over .500 right now. It's pathetic.

With the Rays looking like a long-term threat, and Boston/New York always having the resources to improve, I think it's time Ricciardi is let go and some form of rebuilding takes place. This team is not that far off right now, but I don't think there's enough money to spend or minor league talent to trade/plug-in that can push the team over the top during its current window.
