Lincecum

Post#1 » by Griff83 » Fri Jun 13, 2008 3:00 pm

This kid is unreal. Wacthed him the other night against the Rockies (a good fastball hitting team) and he made them look silly. Im not sure if they even had a baserunner past 2nd base in the 7 innings he pitched. Imagine if that Rios for Lincecum deal had gone thru?

Halladay
Lincecum
Marcum
McGowen
Burnett

I dont know if Ive ever seen a better pitching staff then that and its a rather young one as well.

Yeah, I was thinking about this the other week. I was strongly in favour of this deal back in the winter but I guess the Giant's eventually thought better for it.

And of course Rios signs a huge extension and immediately goes into the tank while Lincecum becomes an elite pitcher.

You're right, we'd easily have the best starting pitching in MLB with him and Rios has only killed the offense from the 1 and 3 holes so nothing would have been lost there. And this would have freed up the option to trade Burnett for another bat to replace Rios.

Masai is overrated.
I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

I was also just thinking about this deal the other day. Hard not too. At the time, I liked the idea of adding lincecum, I just thought Rios was a steep price to pay as he seemed.... to be on the brink of stardom. Seeing his regression this season and hindsight withstanding, I'd take this deal in a heartbeat for the reasons the hater mentioned. Still affords us the opportunity to trade burnett for some offensive punch and still have the best 5 man rotation in baseball.

You could easily make the argument that if you ranked the top 5-6 pitchers so far this season all 3 of Halladay, Marcum and Lincecum could be put in that category.

Lincecum

8-1
1.99 ERA
1.22 Whip
92 strikeouts

Marcum

5-3
2.43 ERA
0.99 Whip
80 strikeouts

Halladay

8-5
3.07 ERA
1.00 Whip
81 strikeouts

I wanted to do the Lincecum deal when I first heard it.

I was just about to use the argument "pitching wins" but then I thought about the Jays this season.
