Jays/Mariners, June 30-July 2

Post#1 » by Schad » Sun Jun 29, 2008 8:07 pm

Well, it's the last trip to the West Coast of the year, a seven-gamer through Seattle and the Angels. What a disastrous June...with the weakest monthly schedule of the year, the Jays can do no better than 10-16. But with the worst team in the majors on the docket, the Jays do have the chance to scramble back to .500. Of course, they'll probably get swept in three 2-1 games. Whatever.

Game One

Roy Halladay (8-6, 3.12/1.09)

vs.

R.A. Dickey (2-3, 4.79/1.48)

Jays win, 2-0: W - Halladay (9-6), L - Dickey (2-4).

ugh.... a 10-16 june?? What a horrible month.. we came off such a good month of May, looking at a relatively easy schedule, and blow it...... Just wait till we square off against the Red Sox and Yankees in the remaining schedule.. I guess I can add the Rays to that list as well

dammit rios! You have been such a crappy hitter this year. As annoying as Rance's voice is, his insight into the game far exceeds that of Pat Tabler. Tabler is a much more soothing voice and he has descent insight, but rance made his career being a knowledgeable guy and that defientely translates into the booth. I love how he calls it like it is. Calling out guys like Overbay and Rios. Just saying they have to produce. Overbay is in the 6th hole and often comes up with runners on and he has to produce, and with Rios just talking about his approach and what he's lacking stepping into the box, that he's just guessing. And that's evident. his at bat with 1 out and eckstein on third tonight was atrocious. The 3 strikes he swings at, where balls, the 3rd one was such an awful pitch I don't know what the hell he was thinking. Rios, you suck

typical overbay... 2 outs and nobody on and he gets a single. RISP and overbay up, outside of a walk you know he wont do jack...

Tell me about it.. Ecks is just plain horrible at the SS.. Everyime I see the ball hit towards him, I pray that he doesn't mess it up.. and I cringe at his throws.. the guy has no arm strength whatsoever.. I guess he doesn't whack enough.. gotta build up that arm strength scrappy!

Things I dislike about Cito: he's very much old school (read, complete bass ackwards) when it comes to setting his line-up. Two light hitters must be in the one and two holes at all times, even if that means Scrappy DHs and one-third of our line-up can't get the ball out of the infield. This is one of my biggest peeves, so this probably won't be the last complaint on the matter.

Things I like about Cito: after sitting him against a lefty (meh, not a big fan) Cito made the bright decision not to come back with Lind against a knuckleballer. When Seattle skipped Felix for a lefty, Cito rolled the dice on Lind rather than rot him out on the bench. Even if he sucked it up tonight it was the right decision...Lind's 3-3 with 3 RBI, so he looks like a genius. Also, pinch-hitting for Eckstein in the sixth with RISP; doesn't matter that it's the sixth inning, Stairs is far more capable of putting the game out of reach.

Also: Lind has been really impressed me with his ability to wait on pitches. His second HR of the year came because his front side stayed in until the last moment, which let him hit a virtual line drive into the opposite-field bullpen. Tonight, he picked up his first RBI by sitting on a slow curve and pulling it through the infield (watch the replay a couple times on MLB.com and notice how quiet his lower body stays), and then the next two by getting on top of a high, tailing fastball and slamming it inside of third. Heh, perhaps JP was right to leave him down there...his mechanics and approach at the plate look nothing like the frequently off-balanced, out-of-sync and otherwise ugly swings that typified his first (brief) stretch with the team.

This loss hurts. We were up by 4 and the bullpen couldn't hold the lead. Disappointing loss tonight.

Rios and Overbay are struggling. I've been very dissapointed with both of these players so far this year. I was expecting so much more from both of them. They both need to produce for this team to have a chance to win.

Scrappy has been a crappy signing so far. What was JP thinking?? I cringe everytime he fields the ball and throws it to first.

Btw, what is the status of Aaron Hill?? Is he still suffering from that concussion?

This team sucks! I'm out. See you guys next year. I can't watch anymore of this garbage. We can't even beat Seattle who has one of the worst records in the majors!?? JP "the clown" better be gone by next year, or else...
