According to a report in the Toronto Sun, the Jays, who are shopping Burnett, who he can opt out of the final two-years of his contract after the season, in order to solidify the left side of their infield.
"They're offering Burnett to any team that needs pitching," an American League general manager told the Sun. "They've told us they're not happy with either David Eckstein or John McDonald."

Yes Burnett is who he is. He has been like this with Florida as well. Dead weight in my opinion and never ever will reach his potential. One inning great the next inning horrible or inconsistent. Get rid of em.

What can Burnett fetch us??
"The Sun reported that Philadelphia Phillies scout Charlie Kerfeld saw Burnett's start at Miller Park against the Milwaukee Brewers and former Jays scout Ted Lekus, now with the Baltimore Orioles, saw Burnett beat the Atlanta Braves last Sunday at Rogers Centre."
Who would we want from Baltimore or the Phillies??

The move that I think makes sense for us is to shop Burnett to the Chicago White Sox for Orlando Cabrera. They can move Uribe back to SS and play their up and coming 2B Alexis Ramirez. Also, Burnett wanted to play for the Cubs, so making him play for the cross town rivals is just being mean.
I'd prersonally like to get Cristian Guzman from the Nats....(.315 5 HR/27 RBI, 24 doubles) and he's a decent leadoff hitter.

If we're trading Burnett for a shortstop, it better be a young shortstop. Cabrera is 33 and has an OPS+ of 82 (worse than Scrappy)...heck, he has been above 100 once in his long career. If we trade Burnett for him, I will scream bloody murder and everyone will feel uncomfortable.
Guzman is even worse. He's having a great season because he consistently puts the ball in play, but his numbers this year and last are so un-Guzman-like that I have a hard time believing he can sustain it. Even if he can, his .343 OBP isn't great for a lead-off hitter...and if it tumbles to his .305 career average (yikes), he's barely worthy of starting.
Again, Burnett's numbers from last season and the weak upcoming FA class make it very likely that he will be a Class A free agent. Therefore, all offers have to be viewed through the lens of the probably opportunity cost, which in this case would be a low 1st round draft pick and a sandwich pick. If we can get one or more very good prospects, trade him...draft picks in baseball are a crapshoot, even high ones. If the return is a stopgap, let him play out the string. If the return is a below-average, aging shortstop making far too much money, run for the hills.

Any guesses as to who will replace AJ in the starting rotation if he gets moved? Purcey?

Purcey would be the best choice, followed by Davis Romero. Romero's tendency to give up fly balls scares me, though, and while Brett Cecil looks very good, he should spend the rest of this season (at least) stretching out his arm to be more than a 5 IP guy.

Yeah I was just throwing out names, but how about with the Padres....Khalil Greene? Bad numbers again, but he does have power and does play in a pitchers park. His numbers have improved over the last month or so averaging nearly .280 during that stretch. He's great defensively too...always a plus.

Greene is a better option, but there are two problems...one, the Padres (33-53, worst team in MLB) have no use for Burnett this year. And if they want him for Greene, that means that they clearly value what he can bring in free agency more than they value his production. And that means that the Jays, too, should value Burnett more that Greene.
The problem is that none of the contenders have a good shortstop prospect whose worth exceeds that of Burnett. The only names I've heard on any of the Jays sites that make some sense are Jed Lowrie (24 year old Red Sox farm hand who profiles to have decent pop and good OBP/fielding at the ML level) and Chin-Lung Hu (24 year old Dodgers farm hand who made every All-Star team possible since entering the pro system, showed great power/average while rarely walking in '07, but has sucked out loud this year). If those are the guys on the table I would consider it, but not for any current ML shortstops, within reason.

I think we should try to move him for Jose Reyes and filler... JK
Here's a longshot however, how about Reid Brignac from Tampa, if they stay competitive.
Lefthanded bat with a little bit of pop, supposedly a good work ethic, although the D could use some work. Some scouts like him better than Longoria. Still, they brought in Bartlett to solidify the defense and they seam happy with him.
Sonnastein is bound to come back to earth, and Burnett's still better than Jackson too.
We'd probably have to add insentive, but its a possibility (and if one of Shields or Kaz goes down it becomes realistic).

We need a guy like Troy Tulowitski- big, athletic, a great prospect. Too bad we never get a chance to draft guys like.....oh, wait.....sorry, my bad.....well at least we have Ricky Romero.....

Dunn was right. JP is a clown.
He signed MacDonald to be everyday shortstop, then singed Eckstein to be everyday shortstop, and now he wants another SS.
JP is long overdue.

In fairness I don't think any of those guys was ever supposed to be a long-term solution. He was just hoping to bridge the gap until he could either trade for a top prospect, or develop one (Jackson's pretty far off IMO)
I still think Reid Brignac is a realistic possibility, depending on how the Rays rate Burnett. He's actually pitched pretty well lately (last night he was screwed by defense and being left in too long).

How about the possibility of Jack Wilson...that might be a good option too.

I would trade Burnett and dangle the possibility of trading Halladay as well. Halladay will fetch us some excellent prospects. I want to see Halladay get a chance to win a championship. It's not going to happen in Toronto this year or the next, or while JP is still at the helm.
Let's face it, this team isn't going anywhere. Very slim chance at making a run at the wild card this season. The odds are against us. Just too many teams to climb over to do so.
So I say unload what you have, and see what you can get in return.

apparently he's availabe and wasn't it rummored that we were talking to the Pirates about him near the deadline last year too? He would be okay but I really don't think he would be that huge of an upgrade.

Paul Godfrey said that they are not shopping Burnett around to any team. This was on TSN today.

Godfrey didn't exactly sound convincing to me. Actually he sounded really rattled for some reason.
