The Jays will be without young power pitcher Dustin McGowan for at least a month after an MRI scan taken yesterday revealed a tear in his rotator cuff.

If it requires surgery, then he's out at least a calendar year, maybe more. That sucks. Apparently he was feeling pain for a few starts but didn't tell anyone. If you recall, Ricciardi publically blasted Burnett for not pitching through pain last year, so maybe McGowan (and Marcum) are/were unnecessarily toughing it out.

If McGowan is out, AJ opts-out/gets traded, and Marcum has to miss significant time, then all of a sudden the pitching staff starts to resemble the offense in its futility. If McGowan and Marcum both go under the knife, then I trade Halladay and rebuild because there's no way to work around that.

Some good news on Marcum

The good news is that Marcum (right elbow) should be ready to go after the all-star break and is tentatively slated to pitch July 21 at Baltimore after a rehab start in the minors July 16.

ouch, maybe a calendar year? That's tough.....

I was very optimistic about him, since a writer (i forgot if it was from SI, ESPN, Yahoo) said that McGowan had the potential to replace Doc as the #1 pitcher this season..
