should the jays consider sending litsch down to AAA?

he was brought up pre-maturely, and hes been struggling really bad since his 7-1 streak a few months back. i know we're a man down in the rotation, but don't we have any other arms that we can bring up? hows romero doing?

I don't think so..... he deserves to stay despite his shaky starts recently...

i mean send him to down, to send a little message to him, to shake things up mentally. that 7-1 was no fluke, he has stuff, but doesn't know how to use it properly. i think sending him down for 2-3 starts can get him back to great form. remember halladay going through the whole minor league system after a terrible season, and look where he's at now. minors can do wonders for you.

well i think we all knew that Litsch wasn't going to maintain his 7-1 rate, and that he was going to slip. I think his current rate is what most of us fans expected. There are other players who should be sent down before Litsch.

I was never a fan of Litsch, always thought he was lucky, kind of like Chacin. I don't think we can afford to send him down right now though, we really don't have a good farm system.

Litsch's problem isn't that he was called up too soon...it's the fact that he has marginal stuff. He has done an excellent job of lowering his walk rate (that's the major area in which he differs from Chacin, who struggled to find the zone), but Litsch is a launching pad and can't strike anyone out, and neither is likely to change. Basically, he's a young Josh Towers; just good enough at picking his spots to be a borderline major league starter/long man, but never going to amount to anything.

As such, there's no point to sending him down. Unless we're pushing Brett Cecil, there's no one worth bringing up, and sending Litsch down won't add 5 MPH to his fastball.

Speaking of Chacin, what's the deal with him? He is currently with Dunedin, and is 1-7 with a 7.88 ERA..... I'm very shocked he's fallen THIS low... I agree with relentless, he was somewhat "lucky", and always received great run support.. But I would've never seen such a drastic decline in his career.

Yeah very disappointing to see Chacin fall this low. I was hpping he would somehow bounce back, and get back to the rotation with the big league team.

I was just about to make a thread about Litch. I would like to see him sent down, but like Schandenfreude said, we don't have anyone to bring up right now.

Another Josh Towers?? ewwwwww!! please baseball gods.... please say it aint so!?

Actually, IMO Litsch's 7-1 was a fluke... a result of a combination of luck and opposing teams not having enough scouting on him. He's a 5-- has been the entire season, and I don't think sending him down is going to change that.

McGowan is the type of pitcher you can fix with a trip down (good stuff, sometimes tends to get away from it, needs to refine his mental approach). Litsch, and his poor stuff, decent approach is not.

I think we all agree that Litsch's 7-1 record wasn't exactly a dominant effort on his part. His ERA certainly didn't reflect that win-loss record... I think this just goes back to the fact that no pitcher should be judged by their win-loss record.

I think there's something to be said for won-loss still being meaningful. For example, I believe that Jack Morris should be in the hall of fame despite his peripherals. But I agree with the notion that no one should be judged on won-loss record alone.

I think he should be sent down if his next start goes the way of his last few. Purcey is down there ready to go...although we could also send down Parrish but I see him being a little more consistent right now. I would sooner fix whatever is happening to Litsch and give Purcey a few starts with the big club to see what we have. He will, more than likely, be our fifth starter next year...even if Burnett doesn't opt out. We need to get litsch on track and give Purcey some prime time.

Short of transplanting Rick Porcello's shoulder and arm onto his body, what is your proposal of how to fix Litsch? He doesn't really have poor control, he never had devastating movement on his pitches to lose and he doesn't appear IMO to be melting down mentally.

I agree that Purcey needs to come up permanently soon. I just think it should be in place of Parrish (who teams are about 2 starts away from figuring out)

Jesse Litch was sent to Triple-A Syracuse today. David Purcey was recalled, and will take his spot.

Hopefully he regains his confidence and command while he's down there. Doc had a stint down there and came back up and never went down again. I still think Litsch has potential to be a starter in this league but he's been all over the map recently.

Nice to see Purcey up. We'll finally get a chance to see what he can do over a longer stretch of time.

Man, they must really be upset with his approach or something... he's been bad lately- but I thought his early season performances earned him a little more leeway than that.
