Ben Sheets

Not a big Mike Wilner fan but he claims that he has strong inside sources within the organization and that if Burnett indeed does opt out and goes elsewhere the Jays will make a strong push to sign Ben Sheets thru free agency.

Ben Sheets would be a solid signing and wouldn't cost as much as Burnett. This would allow for additional FA signings in the off-season. Hopefully..

Actually I'd think Ben Sheets would cost more. He's had an ERA under 4, for the last 5 years. I do like the idea of him in the rotation. A slight upgrade over Burnett.

Sheets is better than Burnett but he is just as injury prone.

I think Wilner said that if JP stays, he'll go after him, since he has a man-crush on him.

He's better than AJ buts he's still a major injury concern. I wouldn't be against signing him but I really think this team should start rebuilding.

How about some hitters! The whole offense needs a face lift. We can let Burnett walk and still be ok pitching wise.

Ben Sheets never has a baseball sounding injury. He gets crap like a paper cut on his toe. How does that affect him playing baseball? Sorry for the crudeness, but that’s part of what makes it funny.

Ben Sheets has missed games due to the following “injuries”:

2001:
Dysentery
Clamidia
Athlete’s Foot

2002:
Bad Haircut (caused him to throw off-balance)
Halitosis
Loose, watery, and frequent stool

2003:
Jock itch
Paper cut to back of non-throwing hand
Fecal Incontinence

2004:
Chapped lips
Itchy anus (30 day DL)
Boner lasting longer than 4 hours

2005:
Hiccups
Bruised nuts after falling off exercise bike
Bit by chicken

2006:
Bad haircut (15 day DL)
Tummy ache

2007:
Blister on finger
Bee sting (15 day DL)
Diarrhea

That would be a solid signing, we would have one of the best 1-2 starters in the AL. Hopefully JP will be fired by then, he damn well better be and even if he isnt knowing our luck Ben Sheet's will never even think of coming to Toronto.

I don't want Ben Sheets.

I'm fine with how Burnett has done with us. We need the rest of the team to step up offensively.

I'd be kinda upset if we didn't sign a bigger bat this offseason. I'd much rather use the money on Pat Burrell, a reliable and very consistant power and contact hitter over the last few years. I think we could pull off a trade with a team like Cincinatti for one of their ace's.

I think with Overbay's value going up, he'd be a good guy to throw in. Trade a guy like Scutaro or Inglett to give them some needed defense, and throw in a prospect or a reliever (Jason Frasor?). That could net us a guy like Aaron Harang (they would be willing to part with him because they're rebuilding).

Harang would come cheap (though I doubt they would want a utility infielder and a guy who makes double Harang's salary, and plays the same position as their second-best hitter and youngster), but that's in large part because he might well be toast. Cincy may have destroyed his arm with consecutive years in the top-2 for batters faced...

After the season that Harang has had, his value won't be that high. If JP can swing a deal for Harang for someone like a Brian Tallet + Frasor + Thigpen, then its fine. Otherwise, I don't want to break the bank for him cuz like Schad said, he might well be toast after so much mileage on his arm.

If we can Raul Ibanez to a 2 year deal with the 2nd yr being team option, I am all up for it. He's on the older side but still has good pop and could work for us.
