Can someone please justify this for me?
B/c to me, Burnett is a contract player. He's better signed to one or two year deals with the way he performs in non-contract years, and the way he's been prone to injury.
Believe me when I say signing Burnett to a 5 year deal is insane.
IMO, we need to fire JP before he ruins this team with his tunnel-vision GM "skills"...I never knew his 5 year plan consisted of 12 years of crap. pure crap.

I hope he doesn't end up screwing this team over long term by doing something like that.
Hopefully this is just JP's way of making other teams overpay for AJ.

I don't think it's that bad of a move. A non-contract playing Burnett is better than Jesse Litsch being our number 2.

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

If JP signs Burnett I'll be pissed.
If he gets a 5 year deal, I'm egging the SkyDome (or whatever they call it)

Don't know what to think of this... i already assumed AJ will not be on the roster, so I'm a bit neutral...

Ludicrous offer, by a man notorious for terrible signings.

Re: Ricciardi offering Burnett 5 year deal?
When J.P. took over for Ash he complained about all the bad contracts he had to get rid of in order to trim the payroll. Fast forward to 2011 when his tenure in Toronto will more than likely be over: Wells will will still be on the books for 20+ mil a year with a FULL NO TRADE CLAUS, Alex rios will be making 12 mil/year With a no trade claus, Aaron Hil's contract will jump to 8 mil/year and now if they sign burnett to five more years, burnett is gonna make 14 mil/year, most likely with a no trade clause.
That's 54 million tied up in 4 players not including Halladay whom if they extend will most likely get more than 15 million a year. So the team is potentially looking at close to 70 million dollars tied up in 5 players in 2011!!.....Good Job J.P.

Just sign him to five 1-year deals.
