Jays tap Romero for rotation

The Blue Jays are down to their final decision regarding starting pitching, after left-hander Ricky Romero was tabbed for a spot Monday morning by manager Cito Gaston.
Romero, 24, joins Roy Halladay, Jesse Litsch and another left-hander, Dave Purcey, among the confirmed starters for the Jays. Lefty Brad Mills and Canadian Scott Richmond are the candidates for the final starting job; Mills pitching Tuesday against the Phillies and Richmond likely getting his final spring innings Thursday against the Tigers in Lakeland.
Gaston confirmed Romero's status speaking to reporters, pointing to Romero's sixth-inning escape against the Astros on Sunday. Romero struck out two and got a groundball out to end a bases-loaded, none-out jam. "That was probably the best inning I've seen all spring," said Gaston.
Purcey starts today's game here Monday afternoon against the Yankees.
