Jays stick with successful seven in 'pen

The Blue Jays are two decisions away from having their roster set for Opening Day. On Tuesday, Toronto finalized the makeup of its bullpen, opting against altering the group that posted some of baseball's best relief numbers a year ago.

The Blue Jays have optioned right-hander Jeremy Accardo to Triple-A Las Vegas, bringing an end to the race for the final 'pen spot. Manager Cito Gaston also confirmed that utility man Joe Inglett will be optioned to the Minor Leagues, which leaves the fifth-starter's job and the backup-catching role the only unsettled roster spots.

"We really don't have a lot of room for guys," said Gaston, explaining the decision to send Accardo to the Minors. "That's the same bullpen that led the league in ERA, so how can you break it up unless somebody gets hurt?"

Gaston assumed Toronto's managerial duties in June, and he has shown a preference for sticking with players he saw perform under his watch down the stretch. Accardo landed on the disabled list with a right forearm strain in May and missed the remainder of the season, putting him in a situation where he had to impress Gaston this spring.
