Has anyone ever seen a cycle live? It's such a rare thing I'm socked whenever one happens.

When was the last Natural cycle?

Well... he wasn't a lock anywhere, but he was a natural fit on the Dodgers.

How could you not like O-dawg as your 2B

He has a career .286 batting average, he steals you 20 bases, more if you use him properly. Probably the best range at 2B in the game, with consistent gold glove caliber D. He's great in the clubhouse, and he actually has a little pop in his bat, when he was on the Jays I remember he'd hit about 10-12 dingers a year, but what was more telling was the fact that it seemed like they always came late in games. 8th or 9th inning in the clutch. Also he's a switch hitter which is an asset match up wise, and for the non believers in switch hitters... when he went deep today as part of his cycle, he did it right handed off the big unit.

I love this guy lol.

I almost saw a cycle one time. I was at a game in Seattle where Bret Boone had a homer, triple, and double by the fourth inning. He failed to get the single though.

It's good to see the O-dawg doing well. I hear Reed Johnson made a great catch last night too. I always liked both of those guys.

Sorry to go a bit off-topic, even though it is a bit exciting, I find the cycle to be very overrated... To me it's just some statistical oddity (ie, does it really warrant media attention and standing O's?)

a cycle is a total of 10 total bases.. would you not rather go 3-4 and have 2 homers and a double?

What are others' thoughts on the cycle?

I'm not too big on the reception hitting for the cycle gets either. Of course you need to be a good hitter to pull it off, but a lot of it has to do with luck as well. It's only so exciting because it's so rare.

A 4 HR game or a no-hitter is much more prestigious imo, as the skill involved to pull off those feats is greater than what's needed to hit for the cycle.

Anyway, congrats O-Dawg. Loved him as a Jay.

Cycle aside, I miss O-Dawg, always loved what he brought to the table and he was a cool guy from what I saw in interviews and such

yes, reed made an awesome catch on prince fielder... robbed him of a grand slam... I saw it live. It was crazy, the craziest part about it was that he was benched and only came into the game because milton bradley pulled up lame @ 3rd when he should of scored from 2nd.

So reed got in there, ended up scoring from third.... then in the bottom half with the score 6-2 cubs... the bases were loaded with 0 out and he took the game tying salami away from Prince. Lol, prince tipped his batting hat to him, it was jokes.

On the cycle note, sure it's not as great as a no hitter, or 4 homeruns, or going by total bases like ryu... but... a triple is very hard to get, not many guys can leg out triples, so when someone does it, in a game that they also do everything else, it's mad impressive to me.

I know it's overrated a little bit, by media attention etc, but o-dawg is the first guy to do it in dodger stadium and will be forever remembered for it.

Not to mention if a Jays guy did it, we'd have an OMGZ thread.

I've always liked Hudson as a player. He's always been amazing defensively and his bat is a little underated tbh. I'm pretty sure he has a higher career obp, slg and ops than Aaron Hill does and plays better defense. Not complaining though, I like Hill, but I think we traded Hudson because we felt he was expendable with Hill playing second for us.

But congrats to O-dawg though, great player and person.

Can't really talk about the merits of trading Orlando, in light of the Glaus, uh, situation. But it was sure was nice to have Wells protected by Glaus during the latter's one healthy season with the Jays. And no-one's unhappy with Aaron Hill back at 2nd this year.

But OH was a nice guy to have. Sorry to bring up Raptors comparisons, but he was like CV31. Pretty much a one-way player (defence in O-dawg's case), but a real fan favourite and nice guy.

anyone remember Benji Molina's attempt? He came just short of it, but that triple was hilarious.

We have Hill now, so I don't miss Hudson. He frustrated me with his offense.

And I agree I never understood the big deal with the cycle. Even the idea that a guy with a double, triple and homer, who maybe hits one down the line, might be better off plodding into first for a single.
