Ryan's struggles remain a mystery

Brad Arnsberg leaned against a wall outside the visitors' clubhouse at the Metrodome, arms crossed and visibly frustrated by another interview about Blue Jays closer B.J. Ryan. Toronto's pitching coach has grown tired of discussing the topic and he defended the stuggling stopper.
It was a disappointing first week for Ryan, but the poor results up to this point haven't cost him his job as the Blue Jays' ninth-inning option. Toronto manager Cito Gaston plans on handing the next save opportunity to Ryan, but that could cease to be the case if the pitcher's command issues persist.
Following another subpar performance on Saturday, when Ryan nearly erased a four-run Toronto lead in the ninth inning in Cleveland, Arnsberg headed over to the closer's locker and talked to him for an extended period of time at Progressive Field. It has been hard for Arnsberg to keep the frustration he has felt from showing.
"Nobody hurts for him more than I do, and he knows that," Arnsberg said.

8th inning. Jays up 2. Downs about to complete another hold.
So how many runs does BJ give up in the 9th? I predicted correctly on Saturday with 3. Tonight I'm going with 2 and extra innings to follow.

It's so bad that after BJ sandwiches 2 singles with a double play ball and finally nails his first save down after a pop out, that Jamie Campbell calls it 'an outing that BJ will remember...'

I'm hoping that todays game was a confidence booster and BJ can finally get his groove back - nothing like notching a save to get on a roll hopefully and put his struggles behind him.. or even if the struggles he has just lessen
- neil.

i dont think it has anything to do with his confidence, i think he knows he a capable closer, but whether he can get that third strike. like i noticed, especially in all his saves opp, he can throw a strike and get into deep 0-2 counts. its that breaking ball, thats disappointing him. before that derosa double, he like threw like 4 straight fastballs and walked grady sizemore. derosa comes up hits the first fastball. his slider away was the one the fooled the batters and set up the fastball high aswell. so clearly its his arm strength or his mechanics thats making his breaking ball way too flat and lost of speed on his fastball.
