Do many of us take Vernon Wells for granted? He had some monster season a few years back, and was on his way to being one of the best centerfielders in the game. He swung for power, drove in runs, and had great defense.

How do you see his place in terms of Jays greats? Assume he goes on to hit 25 home runs and drives in 100 RBI's in the season, he will then be #2 all time for Home Runs and #2 all time for RBI's in Jays history

The man is good. He has been here like 9 years. He is still overrated they made a huge mistake by giving him the max contract. he always pops out or grounds out during clutch situation. once in a while he comes through during clutch times.. Wells has made the all star only twice same as rios but the salary $18 million = $ 10 million..... they should have traded wells and kept rios ...... once all said and done wells will be in top..... but i think snider if he keeps progressing will be the greatest bluejay.......

His place is gonna be the uber overpaid overrated player. Wait till he starts making 22-23 million a season. We would have to pay half of that just to get rid of him.

About 30% of the time you would say? Thats good enough for me, your choosing to remember what you want, he hasn't been driving in runs this year, but based on his career he gets his share of RBIs.

didn't expect so much hate for the guy. Yeah, he has been a disappointment ever since he signed that monster contract. I always see him grounding into DP's whenever a run is really needed.

But you can't ignore his place in Jays history in terms of offensive output.

riciardi needs to go. he signed rios and wells to massive contracts, then they both start declining. also he is stupid for not signing lowe to back up burnett.

And it seems to me his best years were with Delgado protecting him. He still has time to turn things around, though. How many more years are we stuck with him?

Erik Hanson and Randy Myers are definitely up there as well...

He still swings at the first pitch way effin too often.

in 03 he was a monster. '06 is the standard I have for him every year. His defense has slipped which can be attributed to his injuries, but he's still very smart inthe outfield. Besides teh fact that he's not the healthiest guy, he's very streaky.

Ah well, even thouhg he'll be making 20+ million in a few years, hopefully Snider will help us feel better bout that

Wells has most of the tools (not all 5), but 1 thing he uttlerly lacks is plate discipline. He has exactly no plan with the bat in his hands. He guesses continuously which results in swinging strikeouts at bounced pitches in the left handed batter's box or letting fastballs for strike 2 breeze on by. This is why he is so unclutch... you CAN NOT GUESS against big league pitchers in pressure situations. As soon as you are down 0-1, you are waay behind the eight ball.
Other advanced concepts like purposefully hitting the ball in the air or hitting to the right side are thought processes completely foreign to his cerebrum.

He's at his best....which is not that great...when he swings freely. I think Rios is the same way. It means they can put up their stats (.300, 30/100), but it's done in an inconsistent way. 5 good games, 5 bad games, etc. 4 for 5 game, with 4 nothing hits followed by a strike out with the bases loaded.

That's exactly how I'll remember Wells... Mr. inconsistency.

Looking at these stats makes me miss King Carlos...

Sheer power in his swing....you gotta love it.

Barring any major injury or trade, Wells will be #2 all-time in Home Runs and RBI's... #2 all-time for most hits is definitely reachable (and could be the all-time leader if he has a healthy next season).

He will most likely see his name on the wall of excellence (is that what it's called?), which I have no problem with, he's had a great career (yet, inconsistent).

This is only because we couldn't trade him even if we wanted to!!

I know he's the most overpaid. I'd unload him on a rich team in a heartbeat. Snider will be a more than adequate replacement.
