Ben Sheets?

Man:

I didn't know Ben Sheets was a free agent. I thought he was still under contract and was just hurt like usual. We all know he's a walking injury.... for the weirdest ****.

With Pedro and Ben Sheets out there.... and $15 mil that we were going to throw at AJ,

Why can't we give Pedro his 5 Mil and give Ben Sheets 10 Mil. With those 2 guys I think we could be ultra competitive, and they would probably jump on board for the ride with us seeing as our offense is gunning early and our quick start. That would actually be a pretty decent rotation.

Halladay
Pedro
Sheets
Romero
Purcey/Richmond/Litsch

The only thing that worries me about signing Ben Sheets is that I don't really want a pitcher who's going to go on the 15-Day DL because he's got the hiccups. He's the kind of guy who misses a start because of a bee sting.

Anyways, does anybody know his deal right now? I just think since we got off to the hot start, what's probably going to derail us, is pitching. I mean ****... we have Brian Burres pitching for us for christ sakes. I'm not a big fan of Jesse either. So far Richmond has been much better than anticipated. Perhaps Pedro alone wouldn't be enough, I'd love to have both of them though.

Thoughts?

Reasons why we don't sign Sheets:

1. He's injured right now. Sheets even plans to have elbow surgery soon IIRC. I'm not sure if he's done the surgery yet though. Basically though, if he hasn't done the surgery yet, he wouldn't be pitching for us this year. Kind of a waste, right? By next year our rotation will be set. Plus the fact that he's an injury prone pitcher is really shying teams away from him.

2. Sheets is a Type A free agent. This means if we sign him before the Rule 4 Draft, we'll have to give up a draft pick to the Brewers.

However, taking a risk on Pedro would be worth it IMO. He'd currently be better than our entire staff besides Doc. Plus you probably only have to sign him to a 1 year deal.

ahhhh... I read something about his elbow surgery.

I've been reading recent reports that his elbow surgery may not happen and they are re-thinking it.

Anyhow, if it would be a waste then yes, screw ben sheets. But if he can actually pitch I'd like to have him. He can be pretty dirty when he's healthy. Also, thank you for agreeing with me on Pedro, why don't we sign this **** guy already. :P

No thanks to giving up picks. Pedro it is but he looks out of shape.

Pedro would be nice. 1 starter on a year deal might be all we need to hold us over with a solid starting staff till next year. With the way Richmond, and Romero have been pitching, and Marcum/Jansen possibly coming back soon I think they'de give us a good chance to win a lot of nights with the way our bats have been. Anything to get Burres out of the rotation.
