In-game chats in the past for Snider

After a getting off to a hot start to the season, Blue Jays rookie Travis Snider has slowed down at the plate. To help him get through his slump, manager Cito Gaston has started to take a more hands-off approach with the 21-year-old left fielder.
Gaston said he used to talk to Snider during games, but has stopped doing so since the team's road trip in Kansas City at the end of April. Gaston said Snider may have been suffering from a case of information overload as he tried to absorb in-game hitting lessons from Toronto's coaching staff.
"He felt like that it was too much information right now," Gaston said. "So we're just kind of letting him go and see what he can do. [Hitting coach Gene Tenace] still works with him as far as mechanics and stuff, but as far as talking to him during the game, I don't talk to him anymore.
"You can talk to him after the game about what he's doing -- during the game, it's a little too much for him."

yea i heard this during the game too by commentary. the last at bat he had in today's game, it looked like he wanted to chase every pitch, he got K'ed by swinging and miss the first two, and got caught looking for the final strike

He seems very up and down to me. In the same game. He'll go 2 for 4, where his approach and swing for those 2 hits are perfect. But for those two outs, he looks completely lost.
I wonder if it puts more pressure on him now that Cito isn't talking to him.

same here, heard it today also... they mentioned that once he gets more comfortable (like Lind), then he'll speak to Travis a bit more during the game.. right now they just want him to discover himself

Not a bad approach. He got off to such a good start that it's not surprising that he wasn't able to fully stay at that level. Hell, there are tons of other vets (some of whom are unfortunately on my fantasy team) who have still yet to get it going this year. So it wouldn't hurt at this early point to let him rebound on his own. And we can't really question Cito with this. He's a genius at this managing biz.

What, no Smitch-Bargnani parallels?
I heard once that being stupid was actually a positive attribute as a hitter. Sort of like the Jamario Moon approach to scouting reports.
Anyway, it's clear that Travis batting 9th was a good decision. Cito knows what he's doing

Does this mean that all 9 hitters are not on a tear? Impossible!
I'm glad that we're lucky enough to have this as our biggest "hitting" issue so far this year.
