Halladay named AL player of the week

Two dominant pitching performances earned Toronto Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay American League player of the week honours on Monday.
Halladay picked up a pair of victories in as many starts, posting a 1.13 earned run average in 16 innings for Toronto, which has the best record in the AL at 27-14.
Facing former Blue Jays teammate A.J. Burnett last Tuesday, Halladay — the 2003 Cy Young Award winner — allowed only one run en route to a complete-game 5-1 victory over the New York Yankees.
Five days later, Halladay overcame early struggles to lead the Jays to an 8-2 win against the Chicago White Sox. The right-hander worked seven strong innings with eight strikeouts, while allowing just one run.

Well deserved. Doc is rolling now, even by Doc standards. He's an auto-win and at least 7 innings right now.

You may have other things to be furious about this fall, but I guarantee that won't be one of them.

maybe but Grienke needs to slow down big time. If he doesn't, i could see Doc not winning a Cy Young despite a 25 win season with a 2.8 ERA

Wins are the most important factor in Cy Young voting.

Wins are the most important factor in Cy Young voting.
There's no guarantee Grienke himself won't win 20 or so games himself, he's already 7-1 in 8 starts with so and so run support

i disagree... a pitcher can't control whether they get a win or not.. what they can control is ERA, strikeouts, etc... but wins IMO should not be the most important factor for Cy Young voting..

btw, the NESN feed from the Red Sox and Blue Jays game, the commentators are giving MAD props to Roy Halladay, saying he's their favorite pitcher in the entire league hands down, and continued the complimenting.. he also said he's a hall of famer, but only if he does it for 8 more years? that part REALLY puzzled me lol

I agree wins shouldn't be the most important factor. I would lean towards disregarding them completely, in fact. But that doesn't change the fact that they are.
And pitchers can only sort of control ERA.

He would need to put together another 10 seasons at this level even to be considered.

250 wins and 2 Cys will probably be the rubber-stamp benchmark for players of his generation. He needs 111, which after this year probably translates to 5 very good seasons and three decent ones as he declines...plus another Cy Young, at the least. Add to it the fact that Sabathia (19 behind, three yrs younger) and Santana (25 behind, two yrs younger) are the only two others in the 28-32 age range likely to get much Hall consideration and I'd say that Halladay's chances are better than you think...still not great, but it's within the realm of the reasonable.
