Where would Jays be minus their MVP?

Can a pitcher be considered for league MVP honours while at the same time finishing second in Cy Young voting? It's way early, but there's an argument shaping up for Roy Halladay as MVP after he ran his record to 8-1 yesterday with an 8-2 win over the White Sox at the Rogers Centre. The Royals' Zack Greinke has arguably better numbers, but no pitcher has been more important to his winning team – and not just on the days he pitches – than Halladay.
Yesterday, Halladay tied Roger Clemens (1997) for the fastest start after nine games in Jays history. It was a rocky first inning, with Halladay allowing the first five hitters to reach base, including one via a careless error on an infield chopper. Nevertheless, Doc managed his usual seven innings, the ninth consecutive time he has gone at least that many, this time in front of 37,147 fans at the Rogers Centre.

I would say a .500 club. Although if you subtract the 8 wins it will be more than .500, I believe Halladay brings confidence to the team and as many of you know baseball is one of the most "psychological" sports out there.

they would still have hill and lind. i think it would still be as good as NYY are now.

Every fool who says we should trade him should be punched in the face.
He's the best pitcher in the game along with Santana. If we want to contend, we need to ensure Halladay finishes his career here.

Roy deserves whatever the hell he wants when his contract is over...as long as he resigns with us haha. I hadn't realized he was 25th on list of pitchers, in terms of his contract. That really is ridiculous...

i opened this thread expecting it to be about Hill, but without a doubt, Halladay needs to be given his props... It's such a joy to watch him pitch every 5th day..

Dont worry. Halladay will be getting a nice contract in 2011. He should be in the top 5 by then.

JP Ricciardi never gets much respect for that contract.
And yes, the Jays would likely be below .500 at the end of the year if they didn't have Halladay.

I think every fan knows how great Roy is..
It was more the in regards to if we can't challenge..it's better we get something and that he gets to go to a team that can get him in the playoffs regularly..

I think Halladay is the type to take a lesser contract to free up salary for the team. I'm pretty sure that's what he did for this contract, even in the days of inflating pitcher salaries.
