For the first time this season right fielder Alex Rios won't bat in the third slot for the Blue Jays.

Instead, he'll watch tonight's game against the Baltimore Orioles from the bench while recently promoted outfielder Joe Inglett starts in right.

During his pregame briefing, manager Cito Gaston denied the lineup move was an attempt to jumpstart a dormant offence, or jolt Rios out of his recent slump. Gaston said he simply decided to give Rios and rest, and suggested the 28-year-old former all-star would probably return to the lineup tomorrow.

Rios was originally listed as a starter, but Gaston rearranged the lineup about two hours before game time.

im really not as dissapointed with rios as most seem to be. Wells is another story. if there is anyone to benh or move to 7-9 in the line up its him. i think rios could be ok if he had a hitter behind him.

When Riso first got here I looked at him as a rising star with a fine swing and a rocket arm for the outfield, he reminded me of A Rod in many ways. Over the years though he never got stronger, never turned those singles or doubles into home runs and just remains what he always has been which is a bit disappointing. I agree though Raider Wells is the most disappointing and im willing to wait it out a little longer with Rios.

I don;t think Riso was benched either, title is wrong, he just got a rest.
