The All-Star ballot includes a long list of talented second basemen. Inevitably, there will be a few deserving players who miss the chance to head to St. Louis for this year's Midsummer Classic due to the depth at the position.
A quick glance at the American League hitting charts, and it is easy to see why Blue Jays second baseman Aaron Hill is more than worthy of making the cut for his league's elite squad. As things currently stand, though, Hill ranks third to Texas' Ian Kinsler and Boston's Dustin Pedroia in fan voting to name the starting second baseman for the AL.
Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston is hoping Hill's hard work this season pays off.
"It's going to be a tough call," Gaston said last week, acknowledging that there is a deep field of top-tier second basemen. "Who's going to make that All-Star team? I hope it's going to be my guy right here. If he keeps swinging like he's swinging, he certainly has a chance."
