June pivotal for Jays

Fifty-three games into the season, after a bit of a wild ride, the Blue Jays find themselves more or less back at ground zero.

The Jays, considered by many in the off-season to be something of a fifth wheel in the American League East, have lopped off exactly one-third of their schedule and are, for all practical purposes, in a dead-heat with Boston and New York in baseball's toughest division.

If you had offered that proposition to anyone in the Jays organization on April 1, they would have accepted it, no questions asked.

Last week, Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi offered up some Frank Sinatra lyrics: "Ridin' high in April, shot down in May" to describe Toronto's season to this point. After a strong April, the Jays found themselves seven games over .500 on May 1, and on their way to a peak of 13 games over on May 18 before they went on an ugly nine-game losing streak.
