In six games last week, Overbay led the majors with a .533 (8-for-15) batting average, .632 on-base percentage and 1.200 slugging percentage. Of his eight hits, two were homers and four were doubles. Overbay also drove in eight and walked four times.

Good for Overbay, but I still don't expect him to reproduce his 2006 numbers. Still I'll take this while it lasts.

The Overbeast has been unleashed.

He's 7th in the AL in OPS+. And he's 7th in our batting order most nights (though he's hit 6th twice in the last four games). I understand not messing with a good thing, but you'd think Cito would want to squeeze as many plate appearances as possible out of him at the moment.

No, Cito doesn't think like a normal manager. He'll stay in his spot.

Does this give him trade value?

I'd say he probably has a bit, though finding a good team that needs a 1B isn't the easiest thing in the world. Actually, the Rangers would probably be the best fit, though I'm perfectly happy with paying Overbay $7/year for the next two seasons for his production (even if it falls off, which it almost undoubtedly will), and perhaps extracting a sandwich pick from his efforts.

congrats! For this week I will no longer call you Lyle Overpay or Double play Overbay. Still this guy is only a platoon player and his stats are inflated because of it.

Yes, but if you were to give him a 70/30 righty/lefty split in plate appearances (which would be fairly normal for an everyday lefty who gets his occasional days off against lefties) at his current platoon splits, he'd still have an OPS in the low .900s, and be in Lind's company as our best hitter.

Great way to stick it to me and all the other monkeys on this forum, Overbay. We don't know jack, yet we swear we do. Keep it up, man.

33 wins and 2 and a half games back in spite of a 9 game losing streak. Go Jays.

He is the best defensive 1B in the game and he mashes righties. I see no reason to trade him.

This is truly a success story. Going from the butt of Jays fans jokes to player of the week.

We seriously need to invent some new nicknames!

I don't know if I'm ready to accept that.... his name is so much more conducive to put downs like Doubleplay.

Overbay's "joke" rep was always overdone around here, but it was easy because of his name.

Now Vernon, he deserves all the slagging he gets around here. ;)
