Halladay for 30 wins?

Roy Halladay leads the major leagues in wins with 10, and he has pitched more innings (100) than any other pitcher. As we sit here in June, the question is: Can he be the first pitcher since Denny McLain in 1968 to win 30 games?

Peter Gammons doesn't believe so, I don't and I honestly doubt anyone does, but it's phenomenal that Halladay is being spoken of in that kind of light, don't you think?

I'm not even sure why he wrote the article. 30 wins is basically impossible in modern baseball. But it's nice to see Halladay getting some publicity.

Someone will eventually do it. Why not Halladay? He's pitching well and getting decent run support most games. There is a chance. I believe he can do it!!

I don't think Roy will get 30. 24-25 is possible though I'd think.

I mean, usually starters will have 33-34 starts in a year. Roy would have to win 30 of 34 starts. He's already had 2 no decisions and 1 loss. The chances are really low at this point. To put it simply, Roy would have to win 20 of his final 21 starts or so to do it. That's probably not happening.

Edit: Wow, I had not read the article...apparently Gammons does mention the above. He basically mentions that it's not impossible but it's improbable.

C'mon guys this is silly. It's not 100% impossible but just about. Last year people were talking about Chipper hitting .400 at this time, and I think it's just crazy to talk about these infinitesimal possibilities this early. Sooo many things would have to go perfectly.

If he's still on pace in August, then we can talk.

The thing though, he's not even on pace for 30 right now, even with the great start. But hey, who knows it might happen.

The article doesn't even say he's likely to do it, my point was just that it's neat that Halladay is getting that kind of publicity.

I hear ya. For Doc to even be in the same sentence as '30 Wins' is laughable, not in the sense that it's stupid, but rather that he's so freakin' good that it's not impossible.

If our BP didn't hijack 2 of his gems, he'd be 12-1, with another 20 or so starts.

Imagine that, 31-1.

That'd be awesome, lol. I'd totally be thrilled with Halladay winning 25 games, I just want him to nab another Cy Young and to stick around. Halladay staying a Jay his entire career would be amazing.

If I'm not mistaken, no pitcher has even won 25 since 1990. Halladay probably has 21 starts remaining, so that means he only needs wins in roughly 75% of his remaining starts.

...only.

According to the Gammons article Bob Welch won 27 in 1990. I would gladly take that :D

Heh, that's what I get for not reading the article.

Welch is the only guy to win 25+ since 1980 (Steve Stone, Baltimore, 25 wins). A number of guys have hit 23 and 24, but 25+ is damned tough.

President Bush was going to send Roy Halladay to Iraq, but he figured sending a nuke would be more humane.

haha good one.

But yes, Blue Jays (in particular Halladay) is getting great pub.. It's just sad/frustrating that he's arguably the best player in the major leagues who hasn't been in the playoffs yet.. He deserves much better..
