Sweet...for the first time this season, we officially have an entire starting rotation on the disabled list.

Impressive. I can't remember if a team has ever had their entire starting rotation and closer go on the DL at the same time.

bye bye blue jays 2009 season. it was fun while it lasted with the quick start in the beginning of season. i'll still follow the jays and watch for young guys to develop. but it'll be tough to watch the likes of wells and rios struggling through a bad season

Yeah I posted the Halladay news in his status thread. This is a pretty crazy season. If the team can tread water at stay around .500 until Doc comes back we should be pretty content with that.

A couple of things...

Rios isn't having a bad season, and this season isn't over yet.

wow, this is just unbelievable..... I guess if there's any "balancing" factor to this, it's the fact that none of the positional players have had any injuries (with the exception of Snider), and minor one to Rolen..

But this is just awful..

So looks like it's going to be Accardo, Mills and Cecil coming up. Does anyone have any early predictions on who's going to do well/maybe stick around as guys start coming back off the DL? If I was to venture a guess I'd say it's Cecil, but the team is going to be very, very cautious with him.

Cecil has the talent to succeed in the majors as we saw earlier this year. I'm very much looking forward to his return. Not sure about Mills, we'll see.

Does anyone know who the new closer will be while Downs is out?

This is insane. Of course this happens to a Toronto sports club :(

Why can't we have one good team lord? Why?

Not enough money, not enough passion, incorrect management, bad luck and nasty league conspiracies.

Yup.

At least Doc's 15-day DL stint is retroactive to June 13, meaning we could see him in next weekends series against the Phillies (best case). Two starts before the asll-star break would be great.

So when Jannsen returns, he'll be a reliever again, it seems, according to an article in the National Post. And McGowan is done for the season.

I think that's for the better. Richmond proved that he deserves a spot in the rotation, and Janssen's body of work suggests that he's better out of the pen.

Janssen was amazing out of the pen for us in 2007, it can't hurt to have that back, especially given how "amazing" our $10M closer has been... not closing for us. Besides, Janssen as a starter is no better than any of our other prospects, so we can work on developing them instead of giving minutes to Casey when he could be helping us more regularly out of the pen, in shorter innings.
