Well Adams has been hitting really well in AAA and defensively I believe he's available to play the same positions as Inglett, but I hope we don't see him on the left side of the infield.

...as opposed to Inglett who seemed lost up here.
too lazy to pull up his batting average this year. yes, he played sporadically, but he did not contribute.
good to see Adams getting one more shot at things.

could this be Adam's final chance with the Jays?

Yes because there is no way he is going to stick... and after this season (which he will almost certainly end in AAA) he will become a minor league free agent, and I seriously doubt that he will be re-signed with Toronto outside of some spectacular turn around. His defense is horrendous, he's an ok batter. Someone else with a thin bench will sign him and hope he turns it around.

I'm glad he is up. This kid has been through a lot in his major league career and I think he will be a productive bat off the bench for us. I have more faith in his bat than I do Bautista or Inglett. I think he'll be a good spot DH for the time being and a nice PH off the bench. I hope he does well as he has certainly had a rough career to date for the Jays.

this is why i'm so glad scutaro has worked out for us. if not, we'd have russ adams playing some SS for us again... the horror....
i'm pretty sure russ adams will be a 9th batter.. that's just crazy comparison with scutaro who is a lead off batter. wow

There's no way anybody would let Russ Adams be their everyday SS. JP would have signed Pokey Reese or someone like that before letting Adams start every day.
I've been pretty hard on Adams but maybe his bat will prove useful. I have a feeling that his .395 BA will translate to about .270 in the bigs, but even that's not bad.
I'm a sucker for a guy who walks as much as he strikes out, but as Greg Zaun taught us a good eye alone does not make for a productive major league hitter.

Gregg Zaun was an above average hitter for a catcher for that reason (though he walked more than Russ and wasn't horrible defensively).

I would never have called him above average, to me, even when he was at his best Zaun was a definitively average hitting catcher, and his discipline was the only trait that made him that. 30 extra base hits and a .350 OBP is pretty average, even for a catcher. I generally loathe guys who have trouble getting on base, and with his .300 career OBP Barajas certainly has that shortcoming. That being said he's clearly a much more productive hitter just because of his power. Whenever the Jays needed a big hit late in a game all Zaun could be counted on to do is ground out and throw his bat into the ground in anger.
Defensively Zaun was very good at preventing wild pitches and past balls, but his arm was useless and that really hurt the team in a big way. Barajas is a threat to baserunners and it's made a massive difference this season.

I don't see the harm in trying Adams in a platoon role at LF/DH. Millar is done and Bautista can't hit righties. Plus, the Jays need more LHB. Maybe if they remove any defensive responsibility from Adams he might be able to be an adequate stop-gap platoon option until Snider is ready.
I am not expecting much from him, but might as well give him a shot. There is no one else for that role at the moment. I would rather they platoon Adams than platoon Snider.

fyi, i was referring to russ adams playing SS for the jays several years back in 2005 where he played 132 games and started 122. yea so he was our starting SS that year. i guess he did alright that year batting .256. a year later in 2006, he was .219. totally unacceptable. yea so that was my comparison between russ and scutaro.

Oh ok I know he did start that year, I'm just saying that he isn't really a shortstop anymore and even if Scut **** the bed this season there's no way Adams would ever start at SS again.

ok back to my point, i'm just saying it's great that scutaro is working out for us. if he goes down, the job is up to macdonald and russ adams (barring any other call ups or FA signs or trades). I think it's a fight for the job between macdonald and adams. macdonald is horrible offensively, same could be said about adam's offense. defensively, the edge goes to macdonald. so if scutaro is injured, i don't think macdonald is gonna run away with it over adams. so there is a chance that adams can start again at SS, not that i'd like it see that.

Well we'll have to agree to disagree, but I honestly can't envision any scenario in which Adams is a starting major league shortstop. Even if Scutaro and MacDonald went down for the year the team would bring in some other shortstop through free agency or deals. I guess he's started playing shortstop again in the PCL, but there's a reason that he's being brought up as a LF/DH. He's just bad defensively as a shortstop.
