Scutaro, Hill deserve trip to St. Louis

The fans will have their say, but it's nearly time for players around baseball to cast their own All-Star ballots, voting for those worthy of reserve roles on their respective league's roster. Inside the Blue Jays' clubhouse, there is an overwhelming hope that Marco Scutaro and Aaron Hill will make the cut.
"Hopefully these guys will be rewarded for what they've done so far," Blue Jays center fielder Vernon Wells said.
With Scutaro at shortstop and Hill manning second base, Toronto owns one of the best middle-infield combinations in the game this season. The pair's defense has been stellar and their contributions in the batter's box are a primary reason the Blue Jays have been able to hang with the Red Sox, Yankees and Rays in the tough American League East.
As well as Scutaro and Hill have played, though, they don't have a realistic chance of earning a ticket to the Midsummer Classic on July 14 in St. Louis as starters for the AL squad. Often, popularity outweighs production when it comes to the All-Star starting lineups, but the fact that the players also vote can ensure that deserving candidates are also honored.

I think they're both totally deserving. Every player slumps at some point, but Hill is still rocking a .300 average, 15 homers and 48 RBI. Slump or not, those are all star numbers.
In a funny kind of way I almost want Scut to make it more, just because his emergence at 34 has been such a great story.

Lind deserves to go more than those two but he probably won't due to not having a DH in St Louis

Scutaro is second in the AL in walks, 5th in OBP and 23rd in batting average. That's some fine lead-off hitting that we're getting from him.

Freaky, but true; only Bartlett has been better offensively, and he's over 100 PA behind Scutaro. The AL is incredibly thin at SS, really; Jeter is having a solid year, Nick Green is decent, and beyond them there's nothing but suck.

Scutaro deserves it. He has been quite the surprise for me this year. The good showing at the world's also helped him get off to a great start.

You missed the point. Scutaro has provided more value than any other player on his team (when you combine his offensive and defensive contributions), and has been the best player at his position in the AL. He deserves to go more than Lind.
