OT- JP shocked at Jays Record

Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi sat down with the Boston Globe for an interview that ran in Sunday's edition.

"Out of spring training, if you told me this would be our record I'd be shocked, considering what was happening with our pitching. We lost four-fifths of our rotation, so the one thing I said is that we needed our young pitchers to step up, and for the most part they have," Ricciardi said. "We've been able to get these kids a lot of experience. And now we've got Shaun Marcum coming back in August and Casey Janssen after the All-Star break."

After Sunday's loss to the Yankees, the Blue Jays were 42-41 and sat eight games behind the Red Sox for first place in the AL East.

Ricciardi added that he isn't sure whether the team will buy or sell at the trade deadline.

"I think we're going to have a better idea about that once we get through this stretch of games before the break. We've got the Yankees, Tampa Bay, and Baltimore, and if we go 0-10, we'll go one way. If we go 8-2, we'll have to think about adding some pieces," Ricciardi said.

what would be wrong with making a move right now, rather than at the dead line, pretty big hole in the pitching line up right now,,it might take the guessing out of being a buyer or seller. I know that quality pitures are not on the market right now but surely jp can dig up some number 3 guy off some rotation somewhere. Watching Cecil out there today it is easy to see we are just hurting these young guys sending them out there to get beat up and hit around like that.

Management didn't expect this team to contend this season. This isn't new.

That being said, JP really needs to learn to stop giving interviews. This one (being featured in his hometown paper) screams of vanity.

The other option would be to learn to answer the question you wish they had asked, but I've given up on him picking up good interview skills.

What about after May 18th. I find the current BJ record equally shocking considering they were 27-14 in mid-May... Is JP incapable of adjusting his expectations?
