Sad, but it was inevitable. After the surgery to his shoulder he just wasn't the same.

Well he did save 30 games last year, albeit in shaky fashion. He seems to have lost something from then until now.

So who comes in to take BJ's spot?

Scott Downs. He just came off the 15 day DL. Hopefully he stays healthy.

Good riddance.

No more BJ "no lead is safe" Ryan. He gets to sit at home and cash in 10 million for another year.

He's finished, but an outright release with another year left at 10 million is shocking. That pretty much tells you he's useless even in mop up duty.

Must be nice to sit at home and earn 10 million for doing nothing. *shakes_head*

This makes no sense to me at all, what's the point of cutting him and still being on the hook for that salary? Might as well kept him around and made him earn his keep.

I mean he has clearly lost his closing ability but he still could have been used in mop up situations especially considering all the pitching injuries we have. JP baffles me once again.

Wow, why? That money is just gone for nothing.

Have you guys watched BJ Ryan? He's done, cant even pitch in mop-up situations. He's just wasting a roster spot so you may as well eat his salary because he's not going to make any impact whatsoever.

I am so glad he's gone. It just wasn't the same pitcher, I feel for him but we are trying to win here.

Bye Ryan, your attitude didn't help either.

Meh, I liked BJ, but he just flat out sucked this year. A lot worse than last year.

And I'm thinking that Gaston may have talked JP into it cuz almost everytime BJ's out there, Gaston looks pissed off when he has to come out and pull him.

Releasing him outright was the best thing for both parties. For Beej, it sucks and his pride takes a hit, but so does withering in the pen and only seeing barely important innings, only to still give up a run or two. For the Jays, they now only have to worry about the financial obligations without having to feel somewhat forced to be getting him innings when a) he wasn't even effective and b) run the risk of negativity brewing in the clubhouse etc.
