Projecting pitching next season

Post#1 » by silverhill27 » Wed Jul 22, 2009 6:26 pm

I know this thread pops up every few weeks however it's the only aspect of optimism on this dismal Blue Jays team. I personally am not a fan of dealing Doc especially for the names that have been rumoured so I'm going to include him in the projection.

Rotation

SP1 RHP Roy Halladay - he's the only chance of us competing in the AL East
SP2 LHP Ricky Romero - should only get better by reducing his walks
SP3 RHP Shaun Marcum - he's been fine so far during his rehab (stats-wise)
SP4 LHP Marc Rzepczynski - big fan of his, minor league peripherals are awesome, Webb 2.0
SP5 LHP Brett Cecil - the future, needs to improve his control

LR LHP Brian Tallet - mr. versatility, long guy and emergency starter
LR RHP Scott Richmond - above average stuff, righty specialist, will start if halladay is traded
MR LHP Jesse Carlson - pitches great if not overused
MR RHP Brandon League - stuff is there, suffers from Joey Graham-itis
SU LHP Scott Downs - might be better off here as a lefty specialist, FA after next year
SU RHP Jason Frasor - could be trade bait, a totally new pitcher this year
CL RHP Jeremy Accardo - has done it before, once the splitter is back he'll be dangerous

Others: Dustin McGowan (?), Jesse Litsch, Casey Janssen, Bobby Ray, Brad Mills, David Purcey, Brain Wolfe, Shawn Camp, Bryan Bullington, Fabio Castro.

That's a really strong pitching staff with tons of depth and a good mix of lefties and righties. Eventually I'd like to see JP convert some of this pitching to address needs at the corner infield spots, shortstop and a power lefty bat.
