Pickup baseball in Toronto?

Post#1 » by ajp_raps_TO182 » Wed Aug 5, 2009 5:09 pm

Does anyone know of any places in Toronto that run some sort of pickup baseball?
I always play in a pretty small group and it would be great to get into a full game.
Thanks guys.

Anyone want to try and organize a baseball group of RealGM Jay fans?

I'd be down for a pick up game amongst us posters here. The only problem is you'd need 18 people at least. Or 16 with a designated pitcher and catcher. I'm not sure we have enough posters here to begin with, not to mention in the area and willing to play. But yeah, my pops is the coach of my teenage bro's rep team, and I'm sure he'd let me use whatevers in that huge duffle bag. Catchers gear, some bats, bases, a sh*t ton of baseballs.

I'd like to bean Mustard_Tiger in the nuts with a 2-seamer. Unintentionally of course...

Kidding, obv. 8-)

I'd love to play as well, but I have absolutely no former experience playing baseball at all, so that might make things tough.

*Phew*

I'm glad somebody would make my almost completely lack of playing since grade 5 look good.

So long as you can catch and throw a baseball with decent accuracy, we're good. Hitting is a different animal though. I'll see if I can dig out the old tee and we'll start from there. :D

I don't think anyone here is planning on making the Jays, know what I mean? It'd essentially be beer league, and that's fine with me.

I'm a terrible pitcher, but if someone wants to work with me so that I don't bean the batter every time, I'd be fine as a designated pitcher. I used to play middle infield, mostly (and was a guaranteed strikeout once people started throwing curveballs, ugh).

Hey I'd be down, not the biggest guy but I still play in my own league and I think pickup baseball with realgm could be fun!

I'm a pretty good 2nd Baseman and a decent outfielder with a good accurate arm when it comes to D. Heck I can even pitch a little!

My philosophy on batting is pretty simple, 3 things:
1.) See Ball
2.) Hit Ball
3.) Hit Ball Hard

;)

Oh by the way, i terms of equipment, I have my duffle bage, have about 6-7 baseballs, a pretty nice bat, have a catchers mask, catchers chest protector, two batting helmets and a make shift base ;)

Anything other equipment you'll find on me though :P

Oh I have my baseball glove and one other glove for a lefty, it's not in great shape though.

  haha, i would show up if we all got a turn pitching to Mustard_Tiger.
It would be fun to do this though. I can hit a little bit, no power or proper technique though, just depend on whatever little hand-eye coordination i have. I can pitch with good control but without great velocity being a relatively small guy.Throwing is one thing i do well, i can throw left and right handed(better right handed) with pretty good accuracy.

Don't mean to bump up an old thread but I basically have the same questions as the OP. Does anyone know a place to play free pickup baseball in Toronto? I often drive by lakeshore (around CNE) and see alot of people playing at night, is that pickup or a league?

It would be pretty nice to get a weekly realgm game going but I doubt there are enough people interested.

The problem is pickup baseball isnt nearly as common as pick up basketball. Most of the games you see at night are organized in some way. That being said, I would still be down if people want to get a realgm game going.

I'd come and play, for sure, especially to a later game.

Not sure what parks are around the west end by the CNE but I play in a rec league on Lakeshore in the east end (Not So Pro).

Pain in the butt to drive being from West Toronto so I'd like to know as well.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Sounds like a good idea.
