OT - Cubs release B.J. Ryan

Post#1 » by Attonitus » Thu Aug 6, 2009 12:42 am

The B.J. Ryan experiment ended for the Cubs on Thursday when the two-time All-Star closer asked for his release and was granted it.

''He just didn't feel like he was going to be able to help us this year and kind of wanted to go home and regroup,'' said Cubs general manager Jim Hendry, who signed the left-hander to a minor-league contract last month after the Toronto Blue Jays released him.

Too bad, before his injury he was lights out but I guess even BJ knows hes done now, apparently he couldn't top 86 mph, poor guy will have to head home and role around in the 12 million plus we will be giving him to drink beer and watch TV. Seriously though, even though the Cubs are being diplomatic and leaving the door open for him I just don't see him ever playing in the majors again.

Maybe 8 months of rest will be the medicine he needs. It's conceivable that he could come back and be a lefty specialist, but I doubt it. I know he was filthy that first year, but it was crazy to give that contract to a reliever. Closers aren't that hard to find, and they're not worth that kind of cash.

he's gonna have to really change his game.. maybe this off-time will allow him to re-invent himself.. good luck BJ.
