ST. LOUIS -- Tony La Russa is returning to the St. Louis Cardinals as manager on a one-year contract, but there will be one change to his coaching staff.
Mark McGwire, the former Cardinals slugger, will replace Hal McRae, who was fired as hitting coach, La Russa said Monday.
"I don't know how many years I have left to manage, and I wanted to take this opportunity to invite a guy who I think has a very special talent," La Russa said of McGwire.

I had already heard this, but: hahahaha... ha... haha... ha.
Scene: Cardinal's dugout.
Player: Hey Coach, I've been in a bit of a slump. What am I doing wrong?
MM: Hmmmm... that's a toughie. Have you tried The Clear? Or The Cream? That could be your problem.
Player: No, can't say as I have... isn't that what got Barry Bonds into all that trouble?
MM: True, true. Then how about trying HGH?
Player: Ummm... I'm pretty sure that's been banned. I was thinking I may just be sitting on pitches too long? Or have a hitch in my swong somewhere?
MM: That's a good possibillity.
Player: Which one?
MM: Both? Have you thought of trying andro to help you with that?
McGwire exits left.
End Scene.

Or, alternatively:
Scene: Cardinals' dugoutPlayer: Big Mac, I haven't been seeing off-speed pitches very well. You were great at identifying 'em...what was your secret?
McGwire: I'm not here to talk about the past.
End scene.

Heh, just noticed that someone posted virtually the same thing on the General MLB board. This stuff is too obvious.

Yeah, I went for the steroids because I already saw someone using the congressional hearings on a blog this morning. This stuff really is far too obvious.

McGwire doesn't have anything to apologize for, so I hope nobody forces him to do that.

This doesn't bother me at all. McGwire came off poorly in those congressional hearings and has taken a disproportionate amount of the blame for the steroid era because of it. It's not like he's got a lifetime ban or anything, the guy can coach if he wants to.
