Toronto Blue Jays centre-fielder Vernon Wells is expected to have surgery on his left wrist next week, while third baseman Edwin Encarnacion underwent surgery on his left wrist last week.
Both players should be ready ahead of spring training, the team said Tuesday.
Encarnacion had a large bone spur shaved off his hamate bone Friday. He missed about two months last season with a fracture in his left wrist.
The procedure for Wells will repair some cartilage damage.
He suffered through a miserable year at the plate, hitting .260 with 15 homers and 66 RBIs in 158 games.

Wells' contract is devastating to this team there's no doubt, but I do think that there's a good chance that he'll be at least a little better next year. He can't get much worse.

He's a good player. He obviously doesn't deserve that contract but maybe he knows that and is trying to hard or not hard enough. He knows if he wants to play after this contract he has to do goods in his last couple of years for this team. I'm calling it, he's returning to his 30HR self.

I'll say this about Vernon, he never makes excuses or complains, and I do give him props for that.
