Are OF : Lind, Wells ... (Sniders 1st base).
I think if we want to win we need to add a player like Jason Bay, all AA would need to say is he is Canadian, a hell of a player, Offence?..Defence?.
Why not make the obvious choice, clearly if managment has not seen that you have to spend money in our divison to win then move the team else where because it's b/s watching the Sox and Yanks rape us every year!
I really think the Alex Gonzo addition was stupid, how do you sign a player who is well past his prime to let a guy who blew up infront of you Marco leave.

Re: Canadian Content?
First of all, while this isn't a formal discussion, there is a huge difference between 'OUR OF' and 'ARE OF'
Secondly, Travis will not be a 1st, Lind is the 1st baseman if they decide to move someone already on the roster there.
Third, Jason Bay isn't an idiot. He's not coming to Toronto unless we pay him by the truckloads. He paid his dues in Pittsburgh and there would be no way he reverts back to a team with no immediate shot at winning the WS. Why leave Boston for a team two or three stages behind Boston? Would we want Jason? Of course! That's not the question. The question is would Jason want us for the amount of money and lack of winning guarantee we would offer. The answer is no and this is obviously why AA will not pursue Bay.
If we're talking about Canadian content, there are two or three feasible guys we should look at. Russell Martin is obviously paramount here. He's a great catcher, solid leader and puts up numbers. I think if we deal Halladay, we should move him to the LAD in some package that includes Martin. The second guy is Joey Votto. Much much harder to obtain but he would be a rock at 1st with Lind at DH. Third and most realistic would be Mark Teahan. Teahan can play 1st, 2nd and 3rd and OF and I could see him at 3rd once Encarnacion eventually dies or solidfying RF for us.
Also, the Gonzo deal was not stupid at all. Is he past his prime? I'm not sure if he ever entered his prime but he's cheaper than Scutaro and we can cut our ties after this season if we don't like what we see. Scutaro is getting a guaranteed deal so if he gets injured, he's still gettin' paid. That my friend is stupid and something JP would have done.

Snider won't be playing 1st any time soon. Lind, quite possibly.

A few months ago, we took two Canadian players with high picks in the draft in part because Beeston wanted to forge a Canadian identity for the team. Neither player signed, and it was a PR disaster. Bay will go where the most money is, not to the team in closest proximity to his home.
Offence?..Defence?.
He's a great hitter, sure. But he's an all-world awful defender.

We cannot win in this division at the current time, regardless of how much money we throw at free agents, which is why we need to rebuild. Which, thankfully, is what we appear to be doing.

Gonzalez will be 33 when the season starts. Marco will be 34. And because Marco departed, we get two (hopefully) top-50 draft picks.

As it turns out, even when we are spending money, we ain't making it. Fans don't turn out in droves to watch an 82 win team battle for third place.

**** your asterisk.

I didn't read your entire post, but you seem to suggest Bay or any other Canadian to sign. Signing Bay wouldn't be a good decision IMO. He's like Calderon defensively, but does have a good bat. Still he wouldn't be worth the money. It'll be somewhat like Wells all over again.

Re: Canadian Content?
We're rebuilding. Dump the big contracts and build the team from the ground up. Then add free-agents to fill in the gaps when a solid team has been built. Signing Bay would be the exact opposite strategy just overload the team with another huge contract.

Nurse is below average at best.
Masai is overrated.
I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.
