OT: Lackey signs with the Red Sox, 5 years, $85m

Thought this was worth its own thread, just owing to the implications it has on the upcoming draft. Jon Heyman is reporting that the Sox and Lackey have agreed to a rather ridiculous five year, $85m contract that will see him make slightly more than Burnett.

If so, our compensation for Scutaro gets bumped down...we're now looking at a pick around 35th, plus another in the late 60s.

That's a lot. The Red Sox are the new Yankees

New yankees? IDK about that. Lackey is the first big free agent signing in a few years. now maybe if we go out and get matt holliday... then you can compare us to the yanks.

Then you'll be exactly like the Yankees, because you'll have signed a Type-A FA away from us and knocked the **** pick down to the third round. Heh, bastards.

Can someone update on what this means for the picks we get for Scutaro?

Also good deal for Sox IMO. Lackey is better than AJ, and if its same money its worth it. Lester/Beckett/Lackey vs Sabathia/Burnett/Pettite. Scary.....
.....
....

vs. Romero/Richmond/Litsch?

Yankees and Red Sox both miss the playoffs next year.
