Results of the Baseball Writers' Association of America Election for the Hall of Fame Class of 2010 will be announced at 2 p.m. Wednesday here at baseballhall.org. Twenty-six candidates are being considered including 11 holdovers from the 2009 ballot and 15 first-time eligible players. To earn election, players must be named on at least 75% of ballots cast by BBWAA writers with 10 or more consecutive years’ experience.

Newcomers to the ballot include Roberto Alomar, an all-around threat in a 17-season career that included World Series championship years with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1992 and ’93. Alomar won 10 Gold Glove Awards for fielding and was a career .300 hitter with 2,724 hits, combining power (210 home runs) and speed (474 stolen bases). Alomar, part of a major-league family (father Sandy and brother Sandy Jr.), was the MVP of the American League Championship Series in 1992 and the All-Star Game in 1998.

The ballot: Roberto Alomar, Kevin Appier, Harold Baines, Bert Blyleven, Ellis Burks, Andre Dawson, Andres Galarraga, Pat Hentgen, Mike Jackson, Eric Karros, Ray Lankford, Barry Larkin, Edgar Martinez, Don Mattingly, Fred McGriff, Mark McGwire, Jack Morris, Dale Murphy, Dave Parker, Tim Raines, Shane Reynolds, David Segui, Lee Smith, Alan Trammell, Robin Ventura, Todd Zeile.

A lock if there ever was one.

Yeah, he'd be on my ballot no question. Lots of fringe type guys for HOF from what I can tell, but Robbie should be a lock. After Robbie though there's at least a half dozen guys who I'd have really really close to each other.

Hope so. Robbie wasn't perfect in his time here, especially at the end. But I'd love for him to get in.

If the baseball writers of America don't vote him in 1st ballot, they can all collectively blow me. They are easily the most contentious bunch of voters hell-bent on using their influence just because they can as opposed to rewarding players that deserve to be there. Where as the Hockey HOF lets anyone with a pulse in, Baseball is way too critical IMO. Alomar deserves to be there, 1st ballot, wearing the powder blues.

Why the hell is Todd Zeile on the ballot?

Lee Smith, Barry Larkin and Andre Dawson should get in. Alomar's on the bubble a bit. I think if Alomar was on the Yankees, he would be a shoo-in. Stupid American bias.

Robbie was pulling in nearly 90% of ballots posted online around Christmas, though that's a small fraction of the ballots overall. I think that he will make it with roughly 80% of the ballots, in large part because there isn't anyone in the bunch who'll put 90%+ and thus cause the writers to be stingy elsewhere.

Hard to believe he was with us for such a short period of time (91 to 95). I feel like my whole childhood was all about Robbie Alomar.

If I could cast a ballot this year it would be: Alomar, Larkin, Dawson, Blyleven, Smith, Morris, Murphy, Raines

This is stupid. You have Andre Dawson going in alone for a year. If he's getting in, he needs to go in with other players.

don't worry...Alomar will make it...probably next year.

Glad to see Dawson finally make it

Apparently for spitting on John Hirschbeck. He'll get in, just not now. What a travesty.

looking at dawsons stats he was consistent and played a long time but he only had like 2 great seasons. Rest were nothing special

he must have got in mostly because of his cool nickname. Which I can't fault voters for, it's a HOF worthy name

lol me too
although I started watching a bit earlier, when george bell and stieb and jimmy key and them were playing

glad I skipped the last 16 years though. Must have been frustrating

this is why writers should not get a vote on HOF..

it's a fricken joke. there was an ESPN writer that didn't vote for Alomar because he doesn't think he deserves to be a first ballot.

Like.. WGAF.. you are either in or out
