Who will be the Opening Day starter?

Now that Halladay is gone, *sniff*, the Jays don't really have a legitimate ace on the team. There are plenty of pitchers and lots of guys coming back..

Who do you think will be the opening day starter?

Romero?
Marcum?
Morrow?
Cecil?
Rzep?
Litsch?
McGowan?
Mills?
Purcey?
Tallet?
Richmond?
Ray?

My pick is probably Romero or Morrow...probably Romero though.

If completely healthly, Marcum. Because he is the "longest tenured" starter by default. If not him, Romero because he may be the biggest "name" (high first round pick, spoken of for years as a bust by JP instead of taking Tulo, etc) we have in our starting rotation. Both of those statements made me cringe a little...

It'll be Romero. I'm almost 100% sure it won't be Marcum, or anyone else for that matter.

Marcum when healthy is the best pitcher on the staff, but since he hasn't thrown a Major League pitch for over a year, he is someone the team has to make sure is actually healthy before they pencil him anywhere in the rotation.

Romero is almost a lock at this point, barring injury.

My guesses: Marcum, Romero, Morrow.

Morrow will not be on the opening roster. He still has a lot of work to do before we see him me thinks.

Romero, probably, unless he stinks it up in Spring Training or gets injured. My darkhorse would be Richmond because I, for some reason, see him having a good ST.

Huh...Marcum was 9-7 in his last season with a 3.95 ERA and 123 ks in 151 innings. The year before that he was 12-6. When healthy and obviously IMHO, hes easily the best starter on this staff currently. Romero had similar numbers in his first season in the majors, but Marcum has 3+ seasons in the bigs and is the better pitcher, I think.

I'm just not a Marcum fan...never have been.

I hated on Marcum for a long time, but he proved me wrong... he went through an awesome spell of maybe 8-12 starts where he consistetnly flirted with no hitters, struck out 6-10 guys a night, and was just absolutely dominating... then he got hit with an injury bug... but at that time, marcum was arguably our best pitcher. If he's healthy and can shake his rust off and get his form back, marcum's our opening day starter and it isn't even close imo. But he needs to prove he deserves it. Barring that, it's Romero.

I can remember after one of Marcum's starts in fenway, big papi raving about his changeup being on par with Santana's. He was talking about how Marcum was one of the most underrated pitchers in the league. High praise at the time.
