Minor league deal; Reed's a pretty horrible hitter, but he can play CF and add a little depth in Las Vegas.
The Jays also signed Steven Register, a 26 year old right-handed reliever...he also kinda blows, but there's no such thing as too many mediocre AAA relievers.

No no....
TSN must have corrected it.
It said Reed Johnson on the TSN main page.
the article said "Reed Johnson". Also gave
this link that i just pulled from my browser history on the player. It then once refered to the player as "Reed", which was strange, since the writer referred to other players in that article only by their last name.
so tsn.ca made the gaffe and fixed it. which why i thought it was really strange, since i didn't see the story anywhere else.

Not sure he fits in with Broadway's crew (though it's really too bad our
Outman is many years away from the bigs). Still, there are all sorts of possible lame jokes nonetheless, and that's really all I ask.

Holy ****. Johnson looks like a vampire or something in his profile pic:

Look at those eyes! People were always talking about the passion he displayed on the field. I guess they weren't kidding.

Why are the Jays going for quantity over quality?

I think they're trying to tank for John Wall.

Your not entirely crazy. The first time I read the article it said Reed Johnson, then when I checked back later in the day it was changed.
Blue Jays Sign Jeremy Reed

http://tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=306824Aside from all of the fuss being made about the pitcher signings...
I LOVE this signing by AA. For those of you who don't know, Reed was a top prospect in the Seattle organization if I'm not mistaken and then ended up with the Mets. Last year his line was this as per Baseball America.com
.242 avg; 161 ab; 9 runs; 39 hits; 6 2B; 2 3B; 0 HR; 9 RBIs; .605 OPS
The numbers do not tell the whole story though and I think he was really overshadowed in the Mets where he wasn't given a true opportunity to hit. I think he would be a great asset in the OF with the eyesore Wells in CF and the other guys platooning.

This doesn't hurt the Jays at all, just an invite to spring training if I'm not mistaken. I remember 8 years ago or so, when this guy had everyone excited with his tantalizing speed, and ability to hit. If I'm not mistaken, injuries took it's toll on him, and was never able to take off.

I am just curious, do teams have to sign a player to invite them to Spring Training? Or can they do it like the NBA wher you can invite anyone.

You sign a player to invite them to NBA camp too; it is just non-guaranteed.
