Desperation attempt by management to keep fans from losing interest.

Desperation how? If it's a cheap signing, I'm all for this. This could also mean that a deal for Lyle Overbay may be close.

Delgado has shown he can still hit, and could be a good veteran presence.

The Jays are a business after all. Keeping fan interest is part of their objective. As long as it does not hinder the development of other players on the roster, I'm all for this move.

Alex Anthopoulos on Delgado rumor: "There's no truth to it." I guess thats that. Didn't really make sense anyways

It's just as well. The team isn't going anywhere this year, while Delgado can probably contribute something to a contender.

Don't understand these "desperation" and "nostalgia" criticisms. If you sign Delgado, or Sheets, to short, incentive-laden deals, you potentially get a huge reward AND the opportunity to flip them to a contender for a long-term return. If they bust, you eat the relatively small cost, but at least you took a chance. This is exactly the type of value-creating moves a team in this situation should be making.

Sheets, yes. Delgado, no.

At this point the Jays are better off trying to see whether they have anything with Ruiz and Dopirak. The opportunity to play those two guys might not be there in 2011. Dopirak in particular is still young enough to be useful long-term and if he gets playing time and proves to be an asset, then the Jays gain a moveable part out of nothing.

The Jays are a little overloaded at DH right now. If they did not have other options, then sure, signing Delgado would not only make sense from a need standpoint but it would also be a nice story to distract from the losing. However, if the Jays are rebuilding, then they have to try to create assets, and that includes giving these lightening in a bottle type guys a chance to play. If they flop, nothing lost. If they pan out, only good can come out of it.

Personally, if Overbay will be dealt (highly unlikely at this point), then I'd have Ruiz at DH, Dopirak at 1B, and Lind in LF. Hey if we are going to suck, then make the most of it.
