Published reports have persisted for weeks that the Cubs are interested in acquiring Frasor.

This is from a Star piece about the signing of Gregg and how Frasor and Downs are a bit redundant.

Adding Gregg to the bullpen means one of either Frasor or Downs will change roles while the other might have to change teams.

Looks like AA has a follow up move with this signing, I am really liking this GM!

They wouldn't do that, maybe if we added Downsie too and added cash to pay for one of their salaries. Sneezy is too good of a prospect to be had for a reliever, its gonna be hard for us get him.

They also have Castro, and Hendry has a hard-won reputation for overvaluing relievers...I'd imagine that it would take more than Frasor, but it isn't out of the question.

AA has openly stated he's been practically begging teams for an impact SS. This quote from Wilner reporting on the State of the Franchise:

Anthopoulos talked about his tireless pursuit of a young shortstop. Such an acquisition is at the top of his list, and he’s gone so far as to beg other GMs to take six, even eight of his players in exchange for the right one, but he hasn’t been able to get anyone to bite yet.

That's pretty telling. Sounds like he's going after an elite SS who is already established in the majors or an elite prospect. Couple that with the Gregg signing and it seems like something big is about to go down.

Jays should inquire about Sean Rodriguez. Imagine the Rays wouldn't make him available though.

The Tulowitzki blunder keeps looking worse for this franchise. A long-term SS with plus defense and plus power right at our doorstep and Ricciardi tossed it aside for Ricky Romero. I know I am beating a dead horse here, but man, I'd much rather be scouring the trade market for a Ricky Romero type pitcher than an impact SS. But stranger things have happened, I guess.

If I were AA, I would try for a short-stop in A-ball that a team might not be willing to wait for. Lee has already been mentioned by posters here. Realistically I wonder what it would take to get someone like Lee or Noriega (from the Mariners)? The Jays can wait years and years for those guys (along with Jackson already in the system). Either way, I doubt Jason Frasor on the verge of free agency is going to get that type of player.

Considering that many 1st round picks don't even make it to the majors, and that Russ Adams looked pretty solid up to and including his 2004 call-up, I'd say the Tulo horse has been beaten to a pulp. KC and Seattle needed a SS even more than the Jays, but Keith Law didn't formerly work for them so no one makes a big deal about it.

to be fair, frasor is an excellent reliever.

Ricciardi while he was still employed with the Jays admitted that it was a mistake to pass on Tulowitzki. I can't seem to find the article on Google, but it is out there. When the GM himself makes that claim (nevermind the fact that Romero was still on the team when he made that statement, so he was undercutting his own player at the same time) says quite a bit.

Need was evident, but Tulo was also regarded by many as the BPA at the time the Jays selected. In 2004, Russ Adams made 33 errors at SS and had a .759 OPS in AAA (2nd best OPS of Russ' AAA career to date), so if he was the reason why Tulo was passed on, then that was a pretty damn stupid reason. Now, if Hill was used at short and Hudson was at 2B, then at least it would look somewhat passable. But Hill was moved to 2B and the Jays have had a revolving door of crap (Scutaro-2009 aside) at short since then, to the point where AA is begging for a SS with any type of upside on the trade market (any SS with Tulo's upside is probably untouchable).

This is one horse that deserves to be beaten.

Injury news continues to dominate the early part of Chicago Cubs camp. On Thursday it was revealed that right-handed pitcher Angel Guzman, already on the shelf due to knee surgery, has come up with an achy right shoulder. Guzman tried to throw and get loose on Wednesday during pregame drills but complained to trainer Mark O'Neal about pain in his shoulder.

The Cubs are still pursuing other veteran pitchers such as the Toronto Blue Jays' Jason Frasor and San Diego Padres' Luke Gregerson to help out their paper-thin bullpen. The Padres will trade closer Heath Bell at some point during the season, but the combination of Bell's upper echelon salary and the Cubs' lack of money available make trading for him remote.

Guzman would have been one of the top candidate for the Cubs' eighth-inning setup role if he hadn't been injured again. He has had nothing but injuries during his Cubs career.

Haven't heard a lot about Frasor interest for a while. I hope there is something concrete soon.

I still cant understand why we moved Hudson and got rid of Lopez.

Now what we need is a spot that either could have filled a lot better then any of the guys we have. Mind you Mcdonald and Scutro were amazing but not to be had anymore.
