New Turf at Rogers Centre

Weren't the Jays the first to install 'Field Turf"?

So it looks like we've upgraded to the good old 'Astro Turf GameDay Grass 3D'... No information about whether its already in use elsewhere... Apparently its softer and will take about half the time to set up and put away. If nothing else, the name is conspicuously longer so it must be better, right?

Apparently it looks really good.

The last stuff they were using looked like a checker board - you could see the seams so easily.

Maybe they should start putting some of that money in to the team.

It does look a lot nicer.

As I'm sure everyone has noticed, the FieldTurf that was added previously was hideous. It was fine to play on, though I was never a fan of how it felt to play baseball on, but this stuff will look better cosmetically.

This is football, but you should get the idea on the difference:

Well I hope we adjust to it and are defence stays solid. Hopefully its easier on the players knee's and hips. Hope this helps vernon stay healthy. Any little bit helps after a season like he had.

^^ Yea maybe we could of used some of that money to sign a top 3 rotation pitcher. :(

From what I can tell, it doesn't matter what these other fields look like, because the problem with the Rogers Centre is the turf gets messed up when they pull it up and put it back down. There's no way to know how this new turf will handle it.

Here's the announcement in 2005 about the Fieldturf.

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/story/2005/02/ ... 50201.html

To complete the makeover, the 16-year-old facility will have a new scoreboard to replace the once-popular JumboTron and a softer playing surface designed by Montreal-based FieldTurf Inc.

The only resemblance the new synthetic FieldTurf will have to the rock-hard AstroTurf is the dirt cut-outs around each base.

Godfrey said the team preferred this design to an all-dirt infield to maximize the efficiency of the FieldTurf as a multi-purpose system.

Regardless of that though, the Rogers Centre will always be used as a multi-purpose facility. Concerts, Auto Show, etc. They can't depend on the income of 81 Blue Jay games, in a 365-day year.

The Argos made a bid to play at BMO Field. It was quickly rejected by the the CFL because the field is to small. They will be staying in the Rogers Center for the near future.
