Well, he does have the requisite douchebag personality ESPN seems to long for. Although not in the broadcast booth. I'd feel terribly sorry for Joe Morgan or Jon Miller or even Dan Shulman who might have to work with this guy on a weekly basis.

I feel sorry for anyone that has to work with Joe Morgan, **in joe morgans voice** his plain, monotone, dry, boring, delivery, doesn't seem very informative, or, exciting, **end voice**... wow i think i just fell asleep re-reading that

Joe Morgan is recognized as one of the best color commentators ever to do baseball. You are in the minority with your opinion of his skills...focus less on his tone and more on his incredible baseball insight. He gives the viewer a perspective to consider in in-game situations that few others doing baseball broadcasts are able to provide.

With respect to Ricciardi and ESPN, I would put his desk right next to Stephen Ass Smith and the two of them can tell each other how awesome they are all day long.

I know your right in that he is widely regarded, I just come from a much different perspective than most. No thanks to JM.

Have you guys not heard of firejoemorgan.com (RIP)? It was written by none other than the guys who also write the Office and Parks and Rec. Joe Morgan might be consistent but he's also consistently set in his old ass ways, like a lot of old-timer baseball people who refuse to accept common sense progress in baseball thinking.

As for JP, I think he was offered a job by both the Red Sox and the Mets within a week of being fired. He'd probably rather make more money on TV than toil as an AGM for the rest of his career knowing he's probably not getting another top job again.

And, btw, what is ESPN's (or any sports channel, for that matter) fascination of adding GMs who failed badly to provide color. Case in point:

Matt Millen (NFL; ABC/ESPN)
Steve Phillips (MLB, formerly ESPN)
Kevin McHale (NBA, TNT)
Mike Milbury (NHL; NBC)
Billy King (NBA, NBA TV)

Now: JP for ESPN.

He's an idiot and says stupid things to incite others. He'll fit in perfectly.

He`s joining the Baseball Tonight crew, so he won`t featured during any of their games, at least I doubt it. He`ll be more readily seen on the site with their Baseball Tonight features and on the show on ESPN.

I think they're collecting them until they're contractually obligated to take part in a Bill Simmons atrocious GM summit, or whatever he called it.

That or they want to make a show starring the worst GM from each respective sport (Milbury, Millen, McHale although Isiah might be better, and JP although he's probably not the worst ever) and let the fans throw things at them while they analyze the current GM's in sports.

JP isn't quite bad enough to make everything he says comical, but Millen and Milbury have always made me laugh when I see them on TV, not 'cause they say anything funny or controversial, it's simply their presence that does it. I can't imagine why anyone would want the opinion of guys who made decisions so bad there probably aren't 10 fans of their sports who ever would've replicated their mistakes. Did anyone who had watched more than 5 games of the respective sports or read even a single draft website or article think Millen's "let's always draft a WR in the 1st round" or Milbury's revolving door of high picks being moved for no return so he can draft the same position for a poorer prospect each time? The only sadder thing is for TO sports is that of all the terrible trades Milbury made in his history as a GM, he fleeced the Leafs at least once. That's how absolutely terrible the Leafs were/are. Milbury won a trade with them (decrepit W.Clark and M.Schneider for K.Jonsson and the 4th pick in that year's draft that became R.Luongo plus some spare parts). You don't have to mention '67 or no playoffs in x years. That one fact is so horrifying it should make them want to change the name of the franchise to shake off that dark moment in their history.

Keith Law and JO both working for ESPN. Law had made a broadcasting career out of cutting up JP's moves.
