Worst platoon ever?

Post#1 » by Jollay » Thu Apr 1, 2010 7:02 pm

According to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post, the plan is to go with a Willie Harris and Willie Tavares platoon in right to open the season.

You have to think that this will easily be the worst regular platoon in baseball at any position this year.

Firstly, both players are probably reserve/utility players at best. Second, rightfield is generally a position you look to get some power from. Willie Harris has averaged about three homers a year in his career, while Tavares about one homer a year.

Mike Morse hit three dingers in just 52 AB last year, meanwhile.

The decision to use Tavares seems particularly silly. The Nats already have a leadoff guy, and Tavares will bat down in the order.

Just awful. I would have kept Dukes before this. I would try roidless Kevin Mench before this. And most certainly I would try signing Jermaine Dye or using Morse there first....
