Phillies at Nats Part II

Post#1 » by Jollay » Fri Jul 30, 2010 1:59 am

The bleachers will be teeming with ill-mannered f###ing Filly Fanatics. The bleachers always reach a, let's just say, different level when our friends from the city of brotherly love come in. The only thing that shuts them up usually is asking them what year the Eagles won the Super Bowl.

New Philly Roy Oswalt will throw in his debut against Craig Stammen. Miss Iowa will throw out the first pitch in reference to Miguel Batista comparing her to Miss Universe when talking about him replacing Strasburg on Tuesday.

Whatever. Not even worth an apology, although she is a knockout.

If anyone's listening, I imagine I might do a bleacher report for 106.7 THE FAN for Bill and the boys Friday night at some point. If I can hear above the din of the hooligans from Phily...

Nats win the first game, 8-1. Alot of fun.

The Phillies' outfield with Werth in center has major trouble defending the gaps. Oswalt wasn't horrible, but he was a little wild/off last night, for sure. Phillies also made some hilarious plays, such as when Oswalt singled to right and got thrown out before he reached first, and when Ruiz threw to third on a bunt where Dobbs was halfway up the line and no one was covering.

Alot of fun. Adam Kennedy also had four hits. Although I hate him, it would be nice to see him come around in the #2 hole and as the primary second baseman. Although if he did, it would give the Nats an excuse to not go out and get a second baseman in the offseason and be cheap.

Nyjer Morgan bobblehead day at the Park today, with Detwiller making his home debut this year against the very hittable Joe Blanton (6.59 ERA against the Nats last three years).

Still nothing on Adam Dunn. Feels like he may stay at this point. Hope so, unless the Nats make out like bandits in any deal.

The Nats did also recall LHP Atahualpa Severino yesterday from AAA. Kind of a surprise since they already have two lefties in the pen. He was not overly impressive at Syracuse, with a 3.55 ERA, but welcome, my Dominican friend.

Dunn looks like he's in the lineup tonight as the trade deadline passes.

What a great night last night, as the Zimmerman walk off wins it for the Nats.

Bleachers were filled with Phily fans, and there was trouble. Police had to flood the section afterwards as I was threatened, had stuff thrown at me, and one girl I was with got into a scrape with a "woman" from Phily.

Fun stuff. I'd say "Stay classy, Phily" but that line is overused.

How about just "Go F yourself, Philly fans. You're about to get swept right out of Nats Park today."

Lannan versus Hamels today.

That opinion is shared by many.

There was a reason why there was a jail in the old Vet.

They should temporarily have a jail at Nats Park Saturday night when the Phillies are in down. Take the buses, get liquored up, and then the ushers don't do their jobs and control them.

Oh well.

No sweep, but Lannan at least gave the Nats a chance to win by pitching adequately (barely). Ian Desmond made two more errors Sunday but one was on a great play that Dunn should have been able to scoop. The second was horrific, however. It's a shame because he showed his great range all weekend, only to essentially ruin his performance with the second error.

Bullpen is really taxed now, with Batista having pitched a ton lately and Storen and Peralta with two more innings pitched Sunday. Balester got the loss yesterday, giving two runs up in the 11th inning. It's pretty clear he should be used only in long relief/blowout situations if possible.

Still a good homestand against the top two teams in the NL East (4-2).
